I have a mid-2012 MBP 13-inch and it is about time to change there battery as it has warned me by saying "service battery." I am very confused as to what to do now though. I found an IFixit replacement battery for $89.99 but I'm not sure on the quality of the battery. if anyone has replaced their battery with an IFixit one, could you let me know its holding up and how long it lasts? should i get apple to replace it for $129 or replace the battery myself with the Ifixit one?

My intuition tells me that the batteries you get from iFixit or OWC for $90-$100 are exactly the same as the $30-$40 batteries they sell on Amazon or Ebay. What you get from the former is a longer warranty.

Just not the case, any battery under around $80 is almost certainly a knock off, you can just take a look around these forums for issues with cheap batteries only lasting a few months, not providing a good battery life or in some cases damaging the computer or bursting into flame.

OP: I would just pay Apple the $129 myself but the owc and Ifixit batteries are fine if you want to do it yourself.

The OWC or iFixit batteries are knock-offs, also, which is my point.

Some of the much cheaper batteries on Amazon have longer warranties than either OWC or iFixit!

I got a $35 knock-off battery for my 2008 MacBook. It died in 4 weeks. I returned it, ordered another $35 knock-off and it's been fine for about a year. It's hit and miss with the knock-offs.

I guess i will go with the apple service.... even though the nearest apple store is like 2 hours away. but i would rather go in person than send it through the mail, because god knows what can happen in the mail

If the Apple replacement battery is only $130, I'd go with that, you should get some kind of warranty along with it, but....

IMPORTANT:
When they quoted you the price, DID THE QUOTED PRICE INCLUDE INSTALLATION CHARGES?
I've heard of some being charged extra for this.

They did not, nice catch. I will ask when i schedule my appointment which will not be anytime soon. Thanks for reminding me to ask. I will try to remember to come back and post my findings once i get an appointment.
