Also depends on what plan you need. Sprint lets me have 1500 shared minutes per month which also features free night and weekends, free mobile to any carrier mobile, unlimited texting and messaging, and unlimited data.

Verizon doesn't offer the unlimited m2am plan like Sprint and AT&T do.

For my 2 lines, I pay $140 a month including taxes and fees after my 15% discount. By comparison, AT&T has a 900 minute shared plan with 2 GB data packs for the same price.

Verizon was considerably more money, and they don't offer m2am. They do, however, offer a circle of 10 numbers for unlimited calling.

People please exercise your rights and freedom and choose a carrier that has better deals. Drop AT&T and Verizon and go to Sprint. Data has become as important as voice. You cannot buy into the BS of unlimited plans that AT&T and Verizon are selling you. For a truly unlimited plan go to Sprint. I will be switching to Sprint in the summer. I can't believe so many people stick to AT&T/Verizon when Sprint has a better voice and data plan.

Can you recommend which carrier to consider, and why?
As always: based on coverage where you need it as your top priority. Then consider your next most important criteria.

If there was a universally best carrier then everyone would be using that one carrier. If you're just going to randomly poll for suggestion then you might as well roll some dice to decide.

Considering that the 4S IS the 5th version of the iPhone, all this iPhone 5 talk seems silly to me.
Dead horse. You can stop beating it. There wasn't anything left of the carcass long ago. iPhone 5 != 5th iPhone.

If its Verizon LTE I would definitely do that. If not I'd probably prefer a tiered AT&T plan.

Once att gets LTE in my area and the iPhone has a 4G device then it will depend on speed. I have verizon for my biz phone and I consistently average 24mbps up/ 8 down - often faster. If my iPhone on att can't compete with that then I will port it over to verizon. I keep my iPhone on att now because its 3G is lots faster than verizon ( had a 3G with them and it literally crawled).

sprint makes sense if you have more than 3 smartphones on a line. But if you have 2 smartphones and 3 dumbphones than att is actually cheaper since Sprint over chares for their mandatory data plans on dumbphones if you are on a family plan.

Sprint isnt as cheap as it once was. Higher ETF $350 vs $325 for tT. $10 surcharges for smartphone data plans.

Again Sprint makes sense if you have lots of smartphone lines on a family plan. But doesnt makr.sense if you dont and are charged for mandatory data on dumbphones which most do not need.
