I currently have an old iPhone with the AT&T grandfathered unlimited data plan.

I want to get a new iPhone 12. Which carrier plan should I select if I don't want any changes at all to my AT&T plan?

- The AT&T carrier choice - would this make me select a new (different) plan?
- SIM-free

Sim-Free might be the best option since I think if you choose AT&T you have to pay a $30 dollar activation fee. The special offers for AT&T refer to the $700 credit but that depends on your old phone and don't recommend it since you are locked in for 24 months.

Agreed that you'll probably need to select the SIM-free option if you're not looking to make any changes to your AT&T plan.

Might be time to look at letting go of that grandfathered data plan...I finally let mine go a few years back and it was not a bad thing...the new plans include a bunch of stuff the old ones don't. Plus, if you want 5G, you'll have to upgrade your plan regardless.

Is that statement a known fact from AT&T?

At&t unlimited plans have 5g at no extra charge. All other plans are 4g only
But the OP is talking about the grandfathered unlimited plan from 10yrs ago or so. I highly doubt it that 5g is available for it.

OP if you want to keep your current plan get SIM free option. Pop in your current SIM and you done. You'll only have 4g though. Irregardless I would opt for SIM free.

I switched from my granfathered plan and it wound up about even with my fan discount, in addition to the extras offered as mentioned by @SisterBlue22. It was a very good decision for me as I use the personal hotspot often. I went with the ATT Unlimited Elite plan.

I also went with the Elite plan for everyone on my family plan, and my monthly cost (5 lines) didn't change from my previous (non 5G) plan. The Elite plan also upgraded our personal hotspots. I also have a FAN discount, and additional discounts for auto-billing.

LOL! How could I forget about the auto-billing discount 😂. I will never turn away a good discount.
