Sprint STILL doesnt? Wow. They never cease to amaze me!
sprint was the first company to due voice and data at same time. i have had GTE wireless which made Verizon today since 1992. and got sprint in 1997. in 2005 thru 2016 sprint would allow u to be on a call and use internet or any app. at&t started around 2013-thru now plus. verizon started around 2014 there's will work on 4g or 3g data. tmobile allows u to use data while on calls for most apps. us cellular in may 2017 rolled out in 2 cities where u can us voice and data, there probalem is that when u sign a APN carrier settings it takes a world phone out of using other networks data at the same time. any person that has a cell phone with any carrier that is not able to do data its cause of the APN settings.
sprint has the best spectrum if you want fastest internet in city's they have the most high spetrum of any carrier.
spectrum breaks down in 60% High, 40% Mid, 0%Low.
verizion has only 60% mid, 40% low
att has 25% high, 45% mid, 30%low
tmobile has 0% high, 45% mid, 55% low. in june 2017 they were awarded the 70ghz band for free cause they dont have enough high band.

Carriers are removing services cause prices are so low and the laws are changing. in Ga, TN, AL the laws changed if u are on your phone while driving 250 fine if u have a car wreak and the show u as on your phone your held at fault, no matter if the other car hit u and the should be at fault.

Biggest carriers to watch for the roll outs.
Dish network is looking at teaming up with amazon. Dish started a cell service network 2009-threw now plus. the have more towers and faster Ghz bands then verizon and att. the have lics., to use every tower in america plus. 40% high, 40% Mid, 20% low.

also spoke Wireless is the largest cell service in america with more customers than verizon the also are 3-4 times the size. they have the best network and fastest service. spoke wireless has all towers on hospitals. all drs, rn, staff for every hospital in the us. there talking about buying att which owns half of china mobile.
the russian or german cell company that owns tmobile just dumped 1.9billion on more space which by 2019 will make them the fast data. unless the dish team finish the 5G first which they started in march. on a 1200ghz network they have. several big tech companies ceo and desingners have been at Dish's head Quarters. same as Amazon Ceo 7 times in 6 months.

If Sprint is/was on CDMA how were they doing simultaneous voice and data for that long?

Also, Verizon started supporting that with at least some phones somewhat earlier than 2014, more like 2011 or so.

I'm on Verizon and I can do both voice and internet at the same time. Only weird thing was when I first got my phone it wasn't switched on in settings, so when I got it I could only do one a time. Thought that was a bit odd.

Yeah, this is a lot of wrong information.

Sprint still can't do voice and data at the same time over LTE. They may have had some random phones that allow it using a dedicated 3G and LTE radio, but most flagships do not support it as Sprint doesn't have VoLTE yet.

AT&T has had voice and data since at least the mid 2000's with HSPA.

Voice and data simultaneously has nothing do with app support, your phone and carrier either support it fully or they don't. There's no "this app works but this doesn't" when on a call.

Verizon supported voice and data starting with the HTC Thunderbolt in 2011.

In the US at least, you aren't using multiple carriers for voice and data. You may roam on another carrier, but 99.5% of the time you are only one one carrier for voice and data if it supports it. There are some exceptions, like in areas where Verizon roams on US Cellular for 1x voice and has LTE only for data.

I am totally annoyed with myself for not realizing this problem. I switched to Sprint at the launch of iPhone X after having been on ATT with an iPhone since its 2007 launch.

The network speed and reliability on Sprint are fine. I live in NYC with time most months in LA or SF.

it is beyond frustrating not having data when on a voice call. It means no iMessage, and can't get a Lyft/Uber while on a call. These are somewhat basic. I would dump them now based only on this and for sure can not recommend them where otherwise i would. These are often work needs, not just something for fun.

I thought if connected to LTE you could do voice and data at the same time with Sprint?
Unless you're connected to their CDMA 3G network with no LTE available?

Couldn’t agree more. Went to Sprint from T-Mo for a good deal on the iPX, and of course the sales pitch didn’t mention this important lack of capability (nor would I expect them to) and I failed to do necessary due diligence. I’ve been subsequently told their Volte (so?) will roll out in ‘18

Sprint is full of empty promises. I was on their bandwagon form 2004-2014 and I finally woke up and switched to T-Mobile. After years of empty promises and a network that was failing me time and time again, I will NEVER go back. That lack of capability was just one of many issues but still an important one.

I remember driving while using Google Maps on my iPhone 4S and when a call came in the GPS guidance stopped working, how stupid is that?! I literally had to tell the person I have to call you back the GPS isn't loading my next turns.

Exactly. Doesn't Sprint do VoLTE for calls like Verizon these days?

i had sprint from 1996-2016 in the settings you could turn it on, back then i always had Motorola, htc, samsung, or palm phones i could be on the phone and use internet at once starting in 05 on the samsung i830 it was a world , i went out to Dallas TX had a phone break and when in the sprint store the sales person showed me i was blown away, i also had Verizon to but it would not allow it. i waited for awhile for Verizon to get. you might be right that some phones made more for there system could get data and voice at same the same time as early as 2011. i never saw it hit till about 2013-14 time frame...

i kept up with all the new phones and cellular services around cause i was always at the stores before switching to iphone....i would go threw 4-6 phones a year. I've had world phones, you name it I've had it.

all i know is carriers are going away from it do to laws changing. one of my friends has 3 sprint stores they cant do voice and data at the same time or us cellular. us cellular has been saying for 2yrs they have it everywhere they don't only area is in parts of Chicago.
