Hey, I'm pretty new here and was hoping to get this question answered. I'm getting the iPhone 6 in a few days and figured I might as well get some new headphones to go with them, and I've narrowed my decision to the beats studio headphones which I can pick up at an Apple store. I'm looking at the champagne gold and metallic sky colors, but I'm open to others. Which should I get? I provided a picture of my two top options.

Do you want sound quality or looks in a pair of headphones?

From what I discern, the Studio Wireless has the same sonic signature as the wired versions. They're a costly solution but it's one of the best bluetooth headphones on the market and the thing with me is I now don't want to be tethered to my iPhone when using headphones.

Like I said in a previous post I also have a pair of Hifiman cans which is used for serious listening when I want everything right in headphones. Of course believing everything is right as related to headphones is subjective and ones opinion.:) When I just want to rock out and escape when I'm in the mood for some hip/hop, dub step, grunge, electronica and r&b I prefer the Beats because I love that somewhat exaggerated low end bass. Yeah, I can be a bass head. With the introduction of the Solo 2.0 and their wireless Studio version Beats has really upped their game!
I'd probably go for the wired because of the color selection and price. I don't really mind the cord. Honestly, I think I'm at a point where I'm set on the beats studios. I'm not an audiophile so I think it'll be a good investment. :)

to me the beats are the only headphones that do not look ugly, but the reviews are scaring me unless its just typical haters hating because its fun to hate whatever is overly popular

Tell me about it. Nowadays it's just as "cool" to hate beats as it is wearing them.

If you want good looking headphones that are customizable and sound great for the same price as Beats, I recommend V-Moda M-100s. They're high quality, but are a bit more on the bass end. I listen to all kinds of music from hip-hop to EDM to classical. Sound amazing with all. Not to mention their 2 year guarantee warranty backed by a lifetime guarantee once the 2 years expires. Check them out of you haven't decided. I've tried a lot of headphones (Bose QC, ATH-M50x, Klipsch, Beats pro studios, etc) and recommend these heavily. The M50 have a better sound, but aren't for looks in my eyes. They also have a smaller sound stage compared to the M100 with XL earpads.

Anyway, I just love music and feel anyone who truly appreciates it will take the time to sample all options dependent upon availability. Beats easily look the most stylish, but I love my white M100s with their midnight blue custom plates. Not to mention military grade build quality ( thus their guarantee that if it breaks in 2 years, it's on them). Good luck with whatever you decide!

To sum up:

The only people saying buy beats are the ones that did.
Everyone else spent less and got better quality ones.

As for looks, that's personal choice, so not even worth debating.

The beat Pros are great headphones, people who say different, never tried them.

i was never a fan of the studios after i heard them, i can't say about the studio 2s.

The original solos were horrible as well.

But compare Beat Pros with an M50(X) Beat pros def over tops them. if it tops them without an amp, I'm sure the Pros will also top them with an amp.

expensive, but it looks dope and i like the look. IMO Beats Pros should be around 300, but it is what it is.

and the studios should be around 100-200, with a sound upgrade (haven't tried the studio 2s, the studio 1s had some sound distortion and the mids weren't as clear)

Hell i wish burberry shirts weren't 225, but what can we do.

Don't go with wireless, it CAN (as in not for certain) reduce the quality of music.

i hope you go with the Pros, they're much better and the all black ones look bad ass, which i got.

although i haven't tried the studio 2.0, i know for a fact its still miles better.

but the studio 2.0 does look nice with the iPhones because of the colors.

either way, the studio 1.0s weren't THAT bad, its just the price that was the killer.

Beats headphones are grotesquely overpriced.
For the same price you can get professional grade headphones.
If you are set on beats for some reason, then get the gold ones :)

----------

Are the studio wireless better than the wired studios? I'd imagine the wired one would have better sound quality.
I strongly recommend you do some research on headphones.
Beats headphones are bought for image and looks. They do not have accceptable sound reproduction for their price class.
Asking which beats set has better sound quality is like asking which caviar has a higher nutrition value.

I don't think Beats are a bad deal for what they offer, they just offer different things than pure sound quality. The way audiophiles obsess over sound is the same way android users obsess over specs. There's far more to delivering a great product than having the highest specs. The audiophile brands are the ones that are playing it safe and hiding behind metrics, which I'm all for, I have a nice pair of AKGs. The point is, Beats makes a good product, and you are nobody to tell people what they should want. This is like android users saying that iPhones are a ripoff because of less ppi or less cores, but we know that the overall experience is what counts. Beats offers a compelling experience that people enjoy. They're not stupid, they spend money to have the experiences they want. Beats is able to offer value in ways that purely scientific minded people don't want to acknowledge. Beats is the most Apple-like headphone brand.

It's even better when someone disses Beats and says another, but very similar type of product is superior (Bose, B&W, etc.). Now that's just repeating the "hate Beats" mantra blindly, but I digress.

OP: I don't like either of those colors. The matte gold part is cool but then the different color gold ruins it. The other pair is odd, but better. I think the glossy black, matte black, red, blue, white, and titanium ones all look better.

That's just a bad comparison. Android doesn't have specs, it's an OS.

Headphones really only do three things:
  • Look a certain way
  • Sound a certain way
  • Have a certain build

Beats don't have a very good build.
They have a popular look.
They do not have a high quality sound.

For $50 a piece Beats would be an ok deal. For $200 and more they are a ridiculous rip off.

I have had the Beats Studio Wireless since they first came out and have been pleased with them overall - but not without some drawbacks.

I like the style and looks and quite happy with the sound quality. Forget what they call the color, but it is basically black with a light tan headband. The bluetooth pairing and reception all throughout my condo has been quite good.

That said, I'm far from a "power user". No demanding music listening - just web content, podcasts, my Apple Music tracks, etc. I of course tried the noise cancellation when they were new to verify that it worked, but can't say I've used that feature after the first couple weeks.

Biggest surprise was that the covering of the earpads seems very fragile is is getting quite frayed even though my use is very gentle. I'm 79 and not using them with the "vigor" that a teenager would. Have only taken them out of the house once on a short plane trip, so they certainly have not been abused. A product at this price point should be more durable.

In summary, I enjoy using them but feel that I could find a product at less than half the price that would satisfy me just as much.
