Without a doubt the US Apple Store is the biggest, and with that brings the biggest possible upside, but also the most competition to get into the Top 25 or "What's New" fields.

Has anyone experimented with launching in a smaller country first to try to get recognized before launching in the US? Or perhaps there is no relation at all?

Just something to throw around! Thanks guys!

I don't think the App Store rankings are related. You wouldn't get a head start in the U.S. store if you're ranked highly in another store. So it makes sense to launch worldwide from the get-go.

I believe Greencardman is correct. My app has been reviewed in a few different country stores and they only appear there. They don't combine to influence your apps rating either.
