I want to buy a camera as a gift for a friend. I am looking to spend around $300. I'm not looking for just a regular point and shoot camera with opitcal zoom. What camera do you reccomend

As long as the digital camera (PAS = Point And Shoot) has these:

3MP or more
3x Optical zoom or more
SD flash
1.5 LCD or more
2x Digital zoom or more.
USB 1.1 or 2.0

User interface is also important then again its a person to person issue.

Best is to have a feel for it in your hands if you like it chances are the person you are buying it for will like it as well if not send it to me. 🙂

ALL THE ABOCE FEATURES CAN BE HAD FOR $300 or Less USD. 🙂

Stay away from digital zoom, the better the optical the better.

All cameras come with digital zoom, these days. 🙂 <--- I already know its not great optical is better however even if the camera has Optical it also has Digital.

as far as i know you aren't going to find a compact camera with more than 3x optical zoom for less than $300 (stay away from using digital zooms if possible). that said, i just got a pentax optio 750z with 5x optical zoom for $550 or so. i would also recommend steves-digicams , and you might want to check out www.dpreview.com . 2-3 megapixels is enough to make 8x10 prints of reasonable quality, my old camera was 2 megapixels and worked fine for 8x10's. also, i've found the user interface for olympus cameras to be the easiest to use, pentax comes in second because there are so many more features (from my experience) that you can get lost at first. good luck 🙂
