its not a deal breaker and is easily adaptable for me. but the fixed location is much preferred. i don't navigate the menus consistently to feel the difference.

what i do use all the time that i find the most annoying and lack of on windows is Expose hot corners, as their one of my primary ways of getting around my screen space.

One doesn't save space over the other.

On Windows, every open window will have it's own Menu Bar visible, regardless of if you can use it or not. On Mac OS, only the Menu Bar for the front application shows.

Less clutter.

Also to people who complain about moving their mouse around on 30" displays - increase your tracking speed! Mac OS X's mousing handles different mouse speeds in different ways. Move slowly, and you have precise control. Flick your mouse quickly a few inches, and Mac OS X will detect that you're not trying to be precise, easily moving the cursor completely across even a 30" Apple Cinema Display.

I prefer the top unified MenuBar now that I have gotten used to it, but honestly, I almost never use the menu bar anymore. Most of the things that I do have keyboard shortcuts that I have learned or assigned, and I only have to go to the menubar on incredibly rare occasions.

But, the save screen real estate on my macbook and the fact that I can just throw the cursor to the top of the screen with no need to be precise is what makes me prefer the OS X way of doing things.

But, I can work in Windows just fine, so it isn't that big of a deal to me.

OK then my friend, in that case why isn't there a unified toolbar as well? Unless you hide it manually the toolbar is visible for every window whether it's the active window or not and hence whether you can use it or not. What's more, toolbars take up far more screen space than menu bars.

Now that's what I call clutter.

Explain that one! ;)

Single menubar. Mac OS. It's logical. Human. Always in the same place. Anyone who picks the Windows way is just picking it because they're used to it. Which is sad. Because it's the wrong way. :p

Because not every program has a toolbar. Furthermore, toolbars differ wildly between the apps that do have them. There is no universal way to display a set of tools.

Menu Bars, however, are displayed pretty much exactly the same way between every app, and 99% of apps have one.
