The hardware decoder in the iPad and iPhone isn't that great. So I'm curious what you guys do for multiple device encodes? I feel its really inefficient to multiple copies of the same video however at the same time having a lower quality one size fits all isn't the best either.

I notice a video that plays fine (for the most part) on my ATV3 at a ATV3, Normal or High Profile preset will not play on my iPhones and iPads (this was never a problem with my Android devices). I'll get artifacts like in the picture below and eventually the video was freeze while the sound continues to play.

I only notice this with DVD's never a BluRay.

For future reference I figured out what I was doing wrong. In my attempt for the highest quality with smallest file size I was setting my encode speed too slow. For DVD's regardless of preset (iPad, ATV, Normal even High Profile) its better to use "slower" as the slowest encode speed. "Veryslow" and you get those artifacts on the iPhone and iPad.
