I just got my MacBook Air. Loving it.

I am gonna need a ext drive for time machine and other back ups. I’ve been looking at the LaCie ssd drives. 2tb for under $100. Ready for Mac.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I would hate to go back to using spinning drives after a long time using SSD for both internal and external.

As a backup I suppose it is not that bad but if you intend to directly use files on the drive it is going to feel like you are waiting days.

Myself, I mostly buy a Samsung or other, 2 1/2" SSD and a inexpensive USB-C housing. I have been doing that for a number of years going back to before SSDs and has always worked great.

What about this. I thought the LaCie was ssd. ?. That’s off the list
Thinking this will be great for time machine.
Or this slightly cheaper WD with the same internals (WD owns Sandisk).

I have the WD in a 2TB version myself and it is a solid little drive.

Depends what you want to do. If you leave it at home, then a big (or little) spinner is fine. If you want fast portable storage, the Samsung T5/T7 line is very good.

That drive is not an SSD.
