I have a My Book Studio 500GB at work, and I think it works great. It's a bit loud... and the power adapter is a bit bulky, but as far as functionality goes I think it works like a breeze, never has any issues mounting or unmounting, and I'm very happy with my purchase!

I have had a good experience with the WD. I even just tested the daisy chaining of FW devices, and it works fine.

    It is a bit loud.

I believe you have your answer.
    Maxtor drives are pretty bad.
    Stick with Western Digital.
