I have a new iMac with 500GB internal drive. I would like to get an external 500GB drive with some sort of RAID setup so that my internal drive would always be automatically 'mirrored' on my external drive for backup. What are my options? How can I do this? What external drive should I get?

If you take a look at the storage options on the Apple Store, you'll see an Iomega 1Tb model for around £300. It has two 500Gb drives and you can either stripe these for the full capacity or turn 'em into a RAID 1 mirror array.

OS X supports RAID mirroring in software (via disk utility - dead easy to set up), so you shouldn't have any problems
