They are both mobile cards. The only thing "desktop" about the iMac is the hard disk. Everything else is made from laptop parts.
crap i thought an imac would get better performance than a macbook pro.

More or less. The iMac will have better disk performance whereas the MBP may have better GPU performance depending on what you are doing. Both are more or less the same in that regard.
