I have a 3G. My house gets a signal strength that can best be described as fumes. With an booster, I can get 4bars and *sometimes* place calls. Other times, I get "no signal".

I have scoured through several fora and many threads and found that all sorts of issues like this (intermittent reception) are laid at the feet of errant software upgrades. I'm wondering if simply getting a 3GS won't help out with a newer (and therefore better???) piece of hardware.

The issue in reading all the problem threads is that they are skewed with people with problem phones and it's hard to judge whether the 3GS has a shot helping my issue by having better reception.

Please, take a moment to share your thoughts or experiences with the 3G vs. 3GS reception.

    Thanks!

I have a 3G and my wife has a 3GS. We tend to hang out in the same places a lot. (Go figure.)

Every now and then I notice her phone getting one more bar than me, but I don't notice that it really means much. I've never been in a situation where she got signal and I didn't. Only times when she has 4 bars and I have 3.

So that sounds nice, but I'm not sure it means much and it doesn't sound like it would help you.

I have a 3GS and my wife has a 3G. She replaced her 3G once due to a broken silent switch and I've replaced my 3GS three times for "signal issues". This has been a consistent issue...my phone gets much less signal than hers. In our own house, she will have almost full 3G and mine will bounce between one or two bars of 3G down to Edge, to no signal and back. It's sad. It's not an issue with my phone because I've had four different 3GS phones and each one of them have the exact same issue.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't think we could have split that up any better:

    1@ 3GS > 3G
    1@ 3G > 3GS
    1@ 3G = 3GS

    :p
