Dang it. I updated to 14.2 since I wasn’t expecting to pre-order the mini. Does this still mean I‘ll have to update the mini to 14.2 before I can migrate?

Yes, you will, if the phone isn’t already on 14.2.

Thanks to a hardware repair and an abandoned upgrade earlier this year, I migrated between three iPhones (and back) with an Apple Watch in tow, but it never went smoothly, so I was retracing my steps to see if I had made things harder or not.
