There are some sales I would like to take advantage of regarding the iPad Mini 2. It seems that even though there are Carrier specific iPads, all of them work for other networks. Currently I'm using T-Mo and I think they are offering 200MB for life just by having their SIM (don't know how that is going to fly, lol.) But I hear that getting Verizon's iPad Mini offers the most flexibility for use and that any data SIM from any carrier will work on any of these iPads? Is this true? Hoping someone can provide some insight. I think that the phone service is what is incompatible but the data is a different story.

yeah, I think so. I have all ATT models, except for a Verizon iPad Air 1 that I bought from a guy, just after he got it as a gift. I was able to add Apple Care to it.
I have used that Verizon iPad with the T-Mobile free plan using their 10 dollar sim that cost me nothing during a promotion. It works great and they renew my plan monthly, regardless of what sim I use in the iPad. That being said, I have an ATT sim that I use in it always. I got it after figuring out that 200 megs of data just wasn't going to cut it. the T-Mobile sim was useful if I kept it turned off, used my home wifi and jumped to it for emergencies, like going to the grocery store.
Point being, I do think that with the iPads, they are pretty much unlocked here in the US for any carrier. I'm sure someone will clarify.

It appears they are unlocked for all carriers and, if research serves correctly, are the exact same for every carrier. I think that the one area that someone mentioned was a "plus" with Verizon was that since they are impossible to deal with and will ONLY provision their own stuff, getting a VZW iPad Mini 2 will result in you being able to effectively provision it everywhere. Getting the T-Mo version will mean being locked out of Verizon, should I ever care to use them (which I don't think I ever will again.)

At a price of $350 including tax for the iPad Mini 2 cellular 32GB version (16Gb is useless), it makes sense for me to have it as a test device even though I have an Android tablet. I'd never spend the money on it without the cell capability, GPS and free 200 MB of data, which I can jump to 2GB per month for $20 since I'm a customer, if I recall. Having I already have a pretty good sized plan for my phone so I don't really need it but good to have.

The downside of the Verizon tablet... only comes in silver while the TMo comes in both and in black. :) Not sure that's a bad thing... have a day or two to make up my mind and want to get the facts straight.

Although, I do have the one VZ tablet, I doubt I will ever have a VZ account. Get the black one. I cant abide with the white bezel. My wife loves the white bezel, so its really just personal preference.
Other than that, they all are the same. Enjoy your new tablet!

Just picked up the iPad Mini 2 32GB cellular edition - Verizon (had to get the white because it was the ONLY one they had left) for $350 including tax. I decided to call VZW with the slate gray / black one I had from Tmo. They said in theory it should work. But when I gave them the IMEI number and the other one, they couldn't find it in their system. My guess is that they simply don't have the others provisioned even though they could theoretically add them.

Called up T-Mo. They said that if I have the VZW one, it's no problem. Gave them the IMEI number and it's lock and load. Thanks for the thoughts and the congrats guys. I'm glad to share the info. If you can get these Mini 2s for this price, it's certainly worth it rather than paying the overbloated costs that iPads seem to be just for decent storage. Sweet!
