So longevity is something to think about as I said before why buy old tech when new tech is here.

Because old tech is cheaper and already does everything you need/want it to?

That said, buying an iPad 2 is a waste at this point in time. Maybe it's worth it if you can find a well-cared for one for less than $200. At the full $400 asking price or even Apple refurb prices? Not worth it. Go with the iPad 4 minimum or better yet, the iPad Air.

Ipad 2

Had mine for two years now and love it. I've used it for video's and camera over seas with great results. The cellular works great also when I've had no wifi. Have since bought one for the wife 64gb minis.

I heard apple is removing ipad 2 next month and replacing it with Ipad 4.

I may be considering this. I don't play games, but read pdf's and tech books that do look better on the bigger tablet.
I've borrowed an ipad 4 from a friend and it's plenty fast for what I need.
I'm not really impressed with retina on the ipad 4 and air. It does look good, but not impressive. I do like the the iphone 4 and hdx 8.9 screen better. It must be the higher ppi that is needed for my eyes to be impressed. The iphone 4 is just to small to read an entire technical book on, and the hdx 8.9 is not a good tablet except for the excellent screen. The macbook pro's retina does look very good to my eyes

I am somewhat hesitant about getting the ipad 4, thinking about other tablets coming out with 4k this fall, Apple will have to do so also. But another reason to get the ipad 4 instead of air, cheaper, and use difference toward 4k if one is out in the fall. It may be worth picking up for $350

Hmm, just noticed that BB is discounting the iPad 2 by $100. I wouldn't mind an iPad 4. They were pretty solid and the weight doesn't bother me at all.

It's unethical to sell the ipad 2 now. It's so obsolete and any ios upgradeds made available to it will purposely render it useless in a underhanded way to get you to go out and buy a new one. Kind of like making ios 7 available to iphone 4 that worked fine under ios 6, now rendered too slow due to hardware not meeting new ios requirements. At least Microsoft is more honest about hardware requirements for operating system upgrades

I will be so happy when apple discontinues the iPad 2 I hate selling it. And I hate knowing that when the next ios comes out and if apple doesn't give it to the people who bought an iPad 2 they will be mad. But then again I did warn them lol.
