I'm debating between 2 iPads - the current generation iPad and the last generation iPad Pro

Basic Specs:
Both have 32GB memory
Both have wifi + cellular
I can't seem to find the current iPad for anything less than MSRP ($459)
I can get the older iPad Pro for $429 discounted from $679
I really don't have a need for the stylus with the Pro.

For the $30 I'm saving on the Pro model, what am I giving up? When all is said and done, which is a better bargain?

Thanks for your input.

What's your usage, what will you plan on using it for.

what does the Pro do for you that the last gen iPad does not?

Put away a little more and go the 10.5 pro. This tablet is so far ahead of pack it's not even funny. You'll fall head over heels for it, guaranteed.

Saves me $30 :)

I mostly use it for web browsing and as an e-reader.

I have the 2016 9.7" Pro and it works great. So, in my opinion, the older one definitely meets your needs with web browsing and e-reading. I've been looking at the 10.5" and 12.9" Pro to replace our Air 1 and if it were me, I'd spend the $30 for the slightly bigger screen (and the improvements internally), but really you won't go wrong either way.

You missed out, Microcenter had the 32gb Ipad 2017 on sale for 259 last week (its 299 now), I picked up one and am selling my ipad Pro 10.5. Those Pro's are a joke, its just an ipad with stylus support, not worth the money at all. I got me the Surface Pro 4 on sale too last week and is actually a useful tablet/laptop hybrid, I was gonna until just stick to only using the Surface until I see the Microcenter deal and caved in because I just want a iOS device since I sold my iphone 7.

Right now the best deal out there is the ipad 2017 model if you just want a media consumption device and to play games. If you need a laptop/tablet, the Surface is your best choice if you can get it on sale.

iPad Pros, just don't bother, they are a ripoff, nothing special, the people pushing them are either hipsters or work for Apple, I had both iPads and can barely tell the difference, definitely not worth spending triple the price for something that is barely better than the regular ipad. Another ripoff is the cellular models, not worth the cost plus paying extra for the service, just put on your phones hotspot and your good to go.

If you don't need/want the pencil that's a major feature of the pro. However the screen is better, the speakers are MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than the regular ipads.

Seriously, if you care about audio quality AT ALL, or use your ipad for watching movies at all - compare the speaker quality.

i'd rate the speaker improvement as easily being worth an extra 50-100 dollars over a regular ipad to me no question. YMMV, but seriously. Compare the audio between the 2 models if you can, there's a major difference between them. The ipad pro speakers are better than any laptop speakers i've ever used. Seriously.

Dude, I had them both, the speakers on the Pro isn't THAT MUCH better either. Its a little better, but not crazy big difference like they make it out to be on the tech review sites.

Are you deaf? :D

It's stereo for a start (which means you actually get sound from the appropriate direction in movies - the regular ipad is not stereo) and actually has bass.

edit:
well, the regular ipad is stereo when in portrait mode. but that's not really any good when watching content in landscape...

Its still not that big of a deal, nothing wrong with the cheap ipad speakers. If I really want loud sound, I hook it up to my bluetooth speakers and let it jam instead of relying on the ipad speakers. What the ipads needs are front firing speakers like my Surface, that makes a bigger difference than side speakers to me.

Make sure you're ok with the poor screen on the iPad 2017.

I had it for a few days and returned it because of how bad it was, the gap between the screen and the glass and the fact that it can also be your secondary mirror. What a downgrade from the Air 2.

Is this an ad? Microcenter has maybe one iPad.
