I tried to see if there was one of these posts, but I haven't found any via a standard search, so here we are!

I know a lot of people on here have owned various models of iPads over the years and some probably own more than one currently! So, I'm curious: Which iPads have you owned over the years? Lump the ones you still have with the ones you no longer have when listing them!

For me (and not in chronological order):

- iPad (1st Generation; Wi-Fi only)
- iPad 2 (Wi-Fi only
- iPad 2 (Wi-Fi+Cellular)
- iPad mini (1st Generation; Wi-Fi+Cellular)
- iPad mini (1st Generation; Wi-Fi only)
- iPad (3rd Generation; Wi-Fi+Cellular only)
- iPad (4th Generation; Wi-Fi only)
- iPad Air (Wi-Fi+Cellular)
- iPad Air (Wi-Fi-only)
- iPad Air 2 (Wi-Fi only)
- iPad mini (2nd Generation; Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (1st Generation; Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad mini 4 (Wi-Fi+Cellular)

- iPad mini 4 (Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad (5th Generation; Wi-Fi+Cellular)
- iPad mini (5th Generation; Wi-Fi+Cellular)
- iPad mini (5th Generation; Wi-Fi Only)

- iPad Air (3rd Generation; Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad Air (4th Generation; Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd Generation; Wi-Fi Only)
- iPad mini (6th Generation; Wi-Fi+Cellular)

The ones in bold were significant ones in terms of my ownership, while the others were either temporary or secondary devices. What about you guys?

I would love to replace the ipad mini 2 I bought in 2013, with something that can run fcp for ipad, but they are just impossibly expensive here in South Africa, a decent one is well over R25 000, that is just way beyond affordable.. for an ipad that is just silly money..

My first iPad was the iPad three. I was not Best pleased when the iPad four came out in six months, but that’s how it goes sometimes with Apple. My next iPad was the first iPad Pro 9.7. I loved that iPad! I had an iPad in between the but I don’t remember what it was only that it had some kind of problem where it made a strange noise whenever I pressed the key. That one of course I had to take back. Purchased the iPad Pro 10.5. I kept getting the pros because I wanted more and more storage space.

Along came the M series iPad with their neural engine. I could tell that the neural engine was going to be important to the future so I purchased the M1. 11 inch. I kept hearing that the M3 iPad Pro was going to have an oled screen, something that I really don’t want and don’t want to pay extra for so I passed my M1 down to my daughter who still had my old 9.7 inch iPad Pro. She was delighted with the upgrade and I Got myself an M2. Probably going to settle with this iPad for quite some time. I don’t have a Mac of any kind, and I don’t have an iPhone, but this M2 iPad Pro with its one terabyte of storage should do me for many years..

To answer the question, iPad A6X, iPad Pro 12.9 A9X and iPad Pro 11 M1.

@Fraserpatty Am I glad to not have bought the A5X, that iPad really was underpowered and should never have been released. What makes this more egregious is that Apple knew that the A6X was much better and just around the corner. Had the iPad three been a good product in itself then being replaced after just six months would have been somewhat unfortunate but not outright infuriating for its buyers. Then again nobody was forced to buy a 3rd generation iPad.

- iPad mini 4 (Wi-Fi Only)

iPad 3, mini 5 and mini 6 - all cellular and one at a time. The iPad 3 was gifted and the mini 5 sold once I had ensured I was satisfied with the 6, given the coverage jelly scrolling got.

Why did you buy so many iPads?
I haven't owned all of them concurrently. But (a) things happen (for example, the plan was never to own both a Wi-Fi Only and a Wi-Fi+Cellular version of the 5th Gen iPad mini; I ended up having to give up the latter and replacing it with a Wi-Fi+Cellular version of the 6th Gen iPad mini) and (b) I didn't buy all of those. In fact, a fair number of them were just given to me.

Including iPads for household members since I purchase all the tech anyway. The models in bold are the ones we still have in the house with the italics being mine. The rest were either passed down the family or traded in.

Luggage was already full and I was kinda frazzled packing for our vacation else I would’ve brought the unused ones to give away to extended family.

I would buy a new ipad pro, if they were reasonably affordable, here in South Africa, they are not, really think Apple should consider a price reduction, even better, make the ipad up-gradable post purchase... I really would love an ipad that ran fcp for ipad... at what they cost, it is not a wise investment..

Of mine I kept the mini 2 on iOS 10 and I am very glad I did. Same for the 9.7 pro on iPadOS 13.4. Should have kept the mini 4 on iPadOS 13 too, 14 killed it (like I guess it did to your 9.7).
The 10.5 on 17 is fine though
Mini 5 is staying on 16 for now... I have 2 actually and one got something I didn't know it existed, the red spot... It works opposite to the white spot (only on dark backgrounds)
Maybe I'll make a post about it...

I've only owned my iPad mini 6, which has been great. Really love the size.

My work gives us an M1 iPad Air, but other than letting my daughter draw with it from time to time, it tends to get left in my work bag. I find that if I'm going to use something that size, I'm happier just pulling out my MBA.

My old 2017 12.9 (now my mom’s) works OK on 17 so I assume the 10.5 would be fine, too.

My issue is my favorite EPUB reader (Marvin 3 which has now been removed from the App Store) works extra wonky on 15 and newer. I think 12 was the last iOS version where it actually worked properly. iOS 13 and 14 weren’t ideal but the bugs/compatibility issues weren’t too bad.

Original iPad Wifi, bought from a guy at work and later resold on Craigslist
iPad 3 with LTE used from Best Buy (remember Cowboom?) and later resold on Craigslist
iPad Air 2 with LTE refurb from Apple (current, using it until it's dead)

I don't see the point of buying another. As my current is long in the tooth, I bought a used Dell laptop and threw Linux on it. It's my travel/vacation/outdoors/don't care if it's stolen machine and has a full list of ports and charges with USB-C. Plus, I can run Steam on it. For ~$200 (machine and SSD upgrade) it's cheaper than an iPad and has a ton more functionality.

iPad 2, black (64Gb, had it from launch on iOS 4.2, used it until iOS 9, it now sits happily on iOS 6.1.3)
iPad Air 2, SG (met an unfortunate end by me falling on it)
iPad Pro 12.9, 2nd gen, SG (bought as a refurb, used until last month, it’s getting a bit slow and the 1st gen Apple Pencil was getting annoying as I use it for note taking)
Current: iPad Pro 12.9, 3rd gen, SG (massive improvement over the 2nd gen, 256GB and practically brand new, nearly as fast as a new one for day-to-day use, steal at $450. Cypress green Smart Cover is beautiful!)

iPad Air (took me awhile to buy into the use-case when the iPad first came out)
iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)
iPad Pro 11 (2018 w/ the A12X, purchased in 2020 when the A12Z version came out)
iPad 9th Generation (for my kid during Black Friday 2023 when it was on sale for $229)

I am ready for when the new iPad Pros (w/ OLED) come out hopefully in March. Will be a nice upgrade from my current 2018 iPP 11!

I currently use an iPad Air 4th Gen as my e-reader, and use a 12.9 iPad Pro 5th gen that I took over from my wife as my carry around device. I’ve owned a few different older models over the years, but the only ones that stand out as significant was the first gen iPad Air, and the Mini 4.

I still have my original iPad 1, which is boxed up because it's useless today.

I had an iPad 2 that got handed down to my kids decades ago, and I was so disillusioned with iPads that was the last iPad I bought until I got a refurb 2nd gen 11" Pro for my daughter, an M1 12.9 for me and an M1 11 for the wife.

My son has a 6th gen Mini.

I tried to use my 12.9 M1 as my only device (in addition to my iPhone) for 6 months when my 17" MBP finally breathed its last. But I was yet again disillusioned (a bit) with it and bought my MBA M2, which is now my primary (as Apple intended, I guess).

I look forward to the day when I can finally ditch the Mac and use my iPad Pro exclusively, but it still has a ways to go.

i had the original ipad then it broke, moved onto ipad air 1 used it for a couple yearrs and gave it to a family member now still have airpad air 2 still good but slows down alot. thinking of getting a bigger one? newer version if apple comes out with an annoucement in march or may.

Originally when the iPad came out I resented that it wasn’t Mac OS, these days i treat it as my sole ‘non work’ device, though occasionally certain industry apps make me use it for work. Overall ipad has left me underwhelmed in software and interface, but the hardware is impressive to me.
