Matte Black
Slate black
Slate and black

Space Grey was only brought out because Apple not being able to get the anondization process correct on the iPhone 5/5s..

Space grey was just so us black iPhone lovers could have a black front...

Don’t get me wrong I’m glad they came up with something, but if I were to choose it would be FULL BLACK for
My iPhone

Is this really a wide spread issue?

That's concerning as I am planing on upgrading to the 7+ matte black soon...

It's not wide spread. Wide spread would likely see some initial response from Apple on this. This was sporadic from my readings. It was rumored back in February that some reports surfaced of the Matte black chipping. Basically it was a batch of matte black iPhones that did not cure through properly through the anodization process with temperature.

Purchase the Matte Black and enjoy it.

And Space Gray is not?

Hiding it better because it's Space Gray doesn't mean it's not chipping.

No, it's not. I have one Iphone 6S plus from almost 2 years and it's in a very good condition. My 7 black matte it's a shame. I use a case...not naked. It's full of blots on the back and it started chipping at the lightning port

Choose silver/gold/red. I will never buy matte black / slate black.

Out of those two, matte black. But both are fine (black face, color-matched antenna lines).
I don't dislike gold/rose-gold, but I hate the fugly thick white antenna bands. Apple can color-match the antenna bands on the Red iPhone, so no excuses here.
Heck, even the cheap Chinese phones don't have such ugly white antenna bands on their gold phones.

i think I prefer the space grey, the matte black is too meh. I think the silver/black combo works together better.

What do you guys say?
Neither one. Product red or red is the best color ever offered by Apple. Red is a sexy and eye catching color. None of existing offered colors could beat it.

Matte Black (is the best colour from the whole range)!
Only red or product red is the best color of all offered colors on iPhone. It is a sexy and eye catching color!!

I would agree with Product RED if they did a proper job of it and not recycle the front of a silver iPhones!
The Touch ID ring needed to be matching red to qualify for me as the best! Every detail counts!
Now.. if they release a BLUE version that would be number one for me over the matte black! ;)

My 7 is matt black, I so happy with matt black, no chipping still cherry condition.
I have the 5S space grey but I didn't like the 2 tones on the back, the top n bottom black plastic pieces. But all 5S have top bottom plastic.

Definitely space gray. I'm holding out hope Apple brings that back for the next gen. iPhone.

Matte black. Can't wait to get an iPhone 8 in matte black. Or I'd get it in Product Red if the front was black instead of white.

Happy to see this age-old question resurface yet again. Wouldn't want a month to go by without another debate of this important issue.
