Because a) I can't get the "Walking Asymmetry" feature in the "Health App" to work for me (Yes - It's important to me), and b) I'm running out of storage space on my 32 GB iPhone 6S Plus), I'm considering upgrading to at least an iPhone8 with more storage in order to use Apples's upgraded "Mobility" tracking features such as ""Walking Stability".

I don't want or need the latest and greatest, and would prefer to keep the cost as low as possible. So, which iPhone (8 or above) would you recommend for me? Walmart seems to have reasonable prices on the 8, 9 and 10 and I already use their cell service (Straight Talk Wireless). Is it wise to avoid any of these models?

Besides needing help deciding which iPhone to upgrade to, I have questions on how an upgrade actually works. (I've never moved up to a newer model before). Questions that come mind are:

1. Is it simply a matter of moving the old phone's sim card to the new phone? If so, what all transfers over? - (Security Code, Phone Number? Contacts? Photos? Music? Purchased/downloaded apps?)

2. If it's NOT as simple as that, what's involved?

3. Would I need to contact Straight Talk Wireless that I replaced the phone? (I plan to continue with their service).

Finally, any comments on how well the "Health" app works (specifically the "Mobility" features such as "Walking Stability") on whichever iPhone is recommended would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for all of these basic questions....

Thanks!
Bert

So I can only speak from a phone perspective, some of the other stuff is more your region.

I would recommend you get either a 8 Plus if you can find one or get a 11 Pro Max (you’d get a great battery life upgrade for not too much money), again if you can find one brand new. If you can get 256GB of either just to future proof it. I would recommend 11 Pro Max, that way you get a newer A-chip with the AI chip benefits along with updated “modern iPhone design”.

In terms of Walking Stability, not sure if this is what you are looking for? (see below image)

iPhone 8 Plus 256GB is my choice. Arguably still the best iPhone existing.
While Apple refurbished units are currently out of stock, there’s several mint condition units for sale on Swappa and one new old stock unit never activated.

And to answer your other questions:
1. Yes it’s that easy or back up your old phone and restore the new phone from that backup.

3. You can just pop the SIM card out of your 6 Plus and stick it in the new iPhone and you’re good. You don’t need to contact anyone.

Thanks guys! I ended up with a brand new 64GB SE (2020). Got 99% up and running, but I still get "No Data" for Walking Asymmetry and Walking Steadiness. Perhaps it needs a few days of walking data before it reports anything? (Today's my first day with the new phone.)
