Both are light and compact enough but which is better for it? I still find that as much as iPad is powerful and great now, it's still a mobile device and has all the limitations of a mobile device.

Never liked using laptops in bed or on sofa, never found it comfortable to type with a keyboard in my lap. The keyboard also gets in the way when I'm just trying to read. Also, a laptop can only be used in landscape. So for me, iPad definitely wins.

iPads the whole way. Laptops are unwieldy for casual use in bed. I will use one if I am writing a paper and need to lay down in bed, but if I am just sitting enjoying "veg-out" time or reading or something, I will take the iPad every time. This is because i switch positions a lot and a tablet is much easier for this without finding a dedicated spot to put it each time.

The biggest downside of using an iPad in bed, is that if you fall asleep while using it... boom! it almost always falls from your hands and knocks the bejeezus out of your head/face :D

A laptop on your stomach doesn't quite have the same ill effect.

Seems like your speaking from experience? Lol.

I would use an iPad personally, easier to handle and not as hot.

An iPad mini would be the best choice for me. However if we are talking about the 12.9 Inch pro then it has to be a MacBook because the big pro is just too big and unwieldy to use in bed. The MacBook can prop itself up.

It depends...

If you're lying flat on your back, then I would say MacBook, because you open it, and balance it on your chest and you don't have to "hold" it in the Air like an iPad; you just need to have a little hand on it to keep it balanced, and also you don't end up covering any speakers and the like.

If I am reading I will use my iPad Pro, as it allows for more manoeuvrability and positions without compromising consumption.

There are upshots and downsides to both for different tasks really. Just depends on what tasks you like to do in bed.
