The small screen on the iPhone makes it hard to read texts in landscape, so I pretty much always stick with portrait. My iPad is another story, though. I always use it in landscape.

I remember when landscape wasn't a function of the ios and so many people were in uproar that it wasn't, myself included.

Now that its there, I rarely use it, if any. It's a bit cumbersome, losing productivity. Plus it decreases the viewing area of my text convos.

Definitely portrait for me 99.99999% of the time.

Landscape when typing anything with 2 hands. I just find it much easier to use with the extra room.

To those who still use portrait do you hold the phone and type with your thumb or do you hold the iPhone in one hand and type with the other hand?

Just curious :) my accuracy with thumb typing is poor compared to the other option.

I cradle the phone in 2 hands and type with both thumbs. However, I find the width of the iPhone 4 too narrow for this to be truly comfortable.

I'm so used to the orientation lock that I forgot about landscape.

Apple should make the orientation lock work in either position. But unfortunately Apple likes to limit the users choice.

I like landscape so the orientation lock is useless to me.

It's Apples way only. They seem to feel best when calling the shots. They know there's a lot of easy people that will take it.

I'm pretty crappy at thumb typing. Hold in one hand, use the pointer finger of the other to type.
