Which Mac isn't Overkill?

Hi All 😀

Extremely new to Macs, long time PC user (it was getting an iPhone and the thought of app dev that dragged me in 😛)

I did a quick scan of previous posts and though I'm pretty certain this will have been asked before didn't see any reference in glancing.

Which Mac should I get? Basically I want to have a go at developing basic apps, playing games, watching movies, that sorta thing. Being mobile isn't a big deal for me so MBP or iMac doesn't really matter much on that score. I know faster and more is always better but don't wanna go overkill and having zero experience with Macs I don't really know their capablilities. Is there a solid choice that would last me a few years?
