Yet you're considering a lesser powered MBA?

.
As of now, there is no "Power" difference in a MB vs. a MBP13. Same core innards.

Basically, you're all over the place with your criteria. You should first decide if "mobility" is what you value most, then go from there. And since you're aware of the Sandy Bridge rumors I'd wait given you have something to get you by until then. (Keep in mind that prices may indeed go up with the next MBP iteration though).

GeekBench scores tell me MBA 13" is on par with MBP 13", yet MacBook scored 1200 points lower than both. And I consider i5 processors to be a huge power difference from the plain MacBook.

For your requirements you'd save a load of money, find Win 7 a very good OS, and get your needs met nicely. I use both macs & pc's. They each have their advantages.

Based on what he said there's no reason to buy a Mac unless he has his heart set on one otherwise Windows would be fine and he could get a lot more powerful machine with that amount of money

This following criterion you set eliminates the MBA:

Video conversions (Occasional marathons of up to 1 week!)

Actually, I wouldn't even consider any macbook for this other task on a regular basis. They're all underpowered in this regard.

Not to mention, you'll need and external burner with the Air.

Now you're comparing a MBP15 to the macbook?

You originally said,

I'm stuck between a MacBook, Macbook Air 13" 2010, MacBook Pro 13" and 15" 2010.

Then added:

So, I think I wouldn't be satisfied with a plain MacBook for its sheer lack of power.

I was comparing the Macbook to the MBP13 which was one of your considerations. It has the same core specs as the lowly macbook.

Ok. 4Gb RAM cap, 13" low-res screen, not as cooled as MBP's due to plastic body. 2.4ghz processor compared to up to 2.66.

From just the first couple items on your list I would say MBP not Air. You would regret it.

You might even wanna go up to the 15''.

I do creative work on Macs and PCs. I also have worked supporting creative pros on Macs and PCs. If I was you I would get the Mac specifcally because you mention Video and Audio. Pro Tools and Final Cut Pro dominate in those realms and FCP is Mac only, Pro tools is mac or PC, but most pros I know run PT on a Mac.
I would not even attempt to do music or video on a 13". I find it cramped on a 15" and often wished I had gone the extra mile for a 17". I would also consider that while a C2D may seem adequate now, it certainly will not be adequate in a year or two. Mac users tend to get a lot of use out of their Macs ( I know folks that still work on G5 Mac Pros daily).
Also, anyone working in video wouldnt even give a second look to a laptop without 1394. It's the defacto standard for external volumes in post, and for transfers. It is still uncertain if Apple has a major refresh for the MBP. Some folks here say it will be next month, some folks will tell you this summer. If you NEED a system now grab a 15" 2.4ghz and max the ram.

I loved when I bought the first unibody 13'' and there was no 1394. I raged, resold it and bought a netbook..which is what im currently using until the 17'' get updated. I have a love hate relationship with apple.

I'd get a flagship quad-core iMac and a netbook or entry Mac if prices allow. Some of your tasks will be better suited for a desktop, and current laptops may not give you as much flexibility and capability for the tasks you do.

My camera doesn't even have a 1394 port anymore and I haven't used 1394 port on computers since they were invented.
