That's the better choice. It has the 9600M GT. The other one doesn't; although it has an SD slot & 7-hour battery if that means anything for you.

In my opinion, the 9600M GT is worth it over the SD slot.
 

I agree that the NVidia 9600 is worth it alone, but also, you get a removable battery (personally, I'd prefer longer life built-in, but eh, that'd just me)
However, you also get an ExpressCard/54 port with the refurb.
That could be anything. eSata, more Firewire, USB3 (if cards become available), SSD. Anything!
 
Any comments on the better display on the newer model? It's supposed to have something like 60% better gamut or something. Is there a big difference between the early 2009 15" and the mid 2009 15" in this regard?

If you are not a video/photography enthuastist, then the screen difference won't be noticeable. Even if you game on it there won't be any big differences.
 
The older model also have an ExpressCard slot which should mean you can use many different cards to enhance your computer.

And it's MacBook Pro, not Mac Pro ;)
