I highly recommend Brenthaven Bags. They have awesome protection, are built well (they have a lifetime warantee), and look nice too.

yeah I'm still considering the "EDGE", but it seems kind of big to use as a sleeve. Really wish I could see the neocase in the store. It's only $30 and the Vyper is pushing $55.

Just today I was pondering the same question. I narrowed it down to:

Tom Bihn's Vertical Brain Cell

Or

The Waterfield Sleeve

I wanted a vertical case for my backpack... I ended up buying the Waterfield bag, partly because I liked the style, partly because I prefered the flap to the little foldover cereal box of the Tom Bihn bag. I have been a little uncertain about my purchase because the Tom Bihn has the hard outside plastic. Still, I've heard nothing but good things about Waterfield and their sleeves...

The waterfield is just too wimpy.
Braincell is pretty cool but the top "Closes like a cereal box"??

If your sleeve is going into a snug briefcase (does anyone still use briefcases anyways?) maybe the thin neoprenes and waterfields are OK. But I carry a canvas messanger back to school (KU - Go JAYHAWKS).

I'm bouncing all over campus with thick psych books slamming my thighs all day. I take an art class and have pencil shards, chalk bits, etc down at the bottom of my bag. This is why I sprung for the Vyper - and I'm a poor college student :(

But my MB is the most important possession I have and I had to demand three things from a sleeve:

1. Ruggedness and Durability - Neoprene does not these things have.
2. Total Enclosure - no flap holes / cereal box designs etc.
3. Style - I have a reputation to think about ;)

I have the same dilemma, i made a couple of threads about what type of bag to buy (a poll) and what type of sleeve to buy. In the end i have setted, or buying a generic anti-shock case for my macbook, from ebay, i figure its just like a shinza knock off but will fit my macbook as well as a dakine Duel backpack (has a built in padded laptop sleeve). This combo allows me to take my books and laptop to school, protects well, was all under 100$ Canadian, and doesnt advertise what so ever that i have a laptop with me!
Its perfect mix of form and functionality, and a great price.

So just buy a sleeve and a backpack that has a laptop compartment. But NOT a dork bag built for a laptop.. they usually tend to be a giant black square with bulges everywhere...
No offence to anyone, i am a dork, i just try to hide in public ;)

Have you seen the Waterfield to know that it's 'wimpy'? I'm guessing that you say that because it hasn't got a hard shell. My Waterfield is in the post, so I will report back on it's durability once it gets here. I needed a vertical case and the Waterfield seemed to fit that pretty well.

Anyway, just got my MB today. quite a nice machine. I am surprized how sturdy it feels. Not at all a flimsy piece of work.

I use the nylon sleve, and I find that it works absolutely amazingly, its good enough to fit the macbook, the remote a couple others, (hard to squeeze power cord in though), and it works fine as a stand alone case, or in my backpack, I absolutely love it.
