M3 Max 16-CPU, 40-GPU + 64GB RAM (apple refurb) - £3250
M4 Pro 14-CPU, 20‑GPU 16‑core Neural Engine + 48GB RAM - £3500
M4 MAX 16-CPU, 40‑GPU 16‑core Neural Engine + 64GB RAM - £4600

All 16 inch and 2TB SSD.

Which option is best for my needs? Or would even a M2 Max or M3 Pro be enough.

I use Davinci Resolve (and Ableton) for editing & some fairly heavy color correction, fusion. 2k footage but maybe 4k in the future. More concerned about being able to edit quickly than I am final export times.

Appreciate any advice :)

This article considers GPU more important than CPU for Davinci Resolve (however, both are important).

The priority order in terms of GPU performance is: M4 Max > M3 Max > M4 Pro.

So, if you're on a budget, your choice is very clear, and it's the laptop #1, M3 Max / 64GB.

Please also refer see this post: M3 MAX vs M4 Pro for Davinci Resolve 4K and Photoshop/Lightroom

Just you case you need it, the 64GB vs 48GB memory decision can be made by watching the colour of your memory pressure during heavy workload on your current Mac (assuming that's what you're using now).
