The 15 inch seems like a better bargain but if you need portability over performance the 13 inch is the one to go for.

MacBook Pro 1 - 13", dual core 256GB SSD for 1,300
MacBook Pro 2 - 15" Quad core processor, better GPU, smaller 512GB SSD for 1,050

You get more computer, for less money. I myself would choose the 15"

I just went with the 15" I saw a comparison of the two, and the 15 inch seems much much larger despite just the 2-inch difference. I also didn't know it had a quadcore processor and that extra GPU power. That means if I wanted to, I could probably hook up an external GPU and Bootcamp Windows if I wanted to game a bit.

Thanks,

OP:

Since you already have an external monitor to which you'll connect the new MBP, I'd suggest the 13" model for greater portability.

BUT... why aren't you considering buying from the Apple Refurbished store?
The cost may be only a little more, but you get a full Apple 1-year warranty and the product will be "all but new".

It's $800 more.

Keep an eye open for Apple products at refurb.me.
The 2015 MBPro 13" comes up from time to time at good pricing.
