Which macbook pro should I get based on my current needs?

I never played computer games...

but I transform the movie format very frequently (e.x. from mkv to mp4), and I really need this process be very fast!!! The time of my requirment to transform a 1080p movie to iphone compatible mp4 version should better be less than half an hour!

Besides, I run excel solver very frequently, the time to slove the linear and integer programming with 1000 variable and 1000 constrains should be less than 5 seconds... Besides, I run minitab and matlab a lot

I am now using MBP 371 2.4ghz version, which apparently could not satisfy my needs...

Maybe you should consider a desktop (PC?) instead. You are paying a huge premium for laptop with decent performance when you could get a PC with more power for much less $. You can use your current MBP for everything else if you want to.

If it must be MBP, then get the best you can.

The 15" MBP with i7 quad-core 2.0 GHz CPU might do fine.

I think u should go with the high end 15 inch. With 2.2 GHz, and better graphics.

You could get a MB Air (or entry 13") and a PC desktop for less than a good 15"

Ah, I never seen the number without the proper letters, like "MC371D/A" for example.

Any MBA would be suitable, a white Macbook, or entry Macbook Pro. It's up to you.
