I got the 2.4 cause the keys look dope, and the student discount made it only a $250 difference, which in my opinion when you combine the hard drive increase, backlit keys, and processor speed increase, is nearly worth it....PLUS I had a gift card from returning my BlackBook that I bought 3 months ago, but Apple couldn't manage to effectively fix whatever was wrong with the LCD, so I ended up just getting my money put on a gift card and waited for the new computers...still, when you think about it, is the jump from the MacBook to the MacBook pro really even worth it? Firewire, dedicated graphics (that are no longer super significant because of the integrated nVidia), bigger screen, backlit...and thats a whole $700 dollars more than the base Aluminum MacBook....I guess I would say, to each their own.

There is a HUGE difference between the Pro's dedicated graphics and the new Macbook's integrated nVidia one. You are the first person I have read on here trying to make that case. That is funny. Sure the new Macbook's graphics are better now, but are no where close to the Pro's. Since you own a new one you want to believe that is the case to make yourself feel better probably, but it isn't true.

IF you can afford it AND not sure if 2.0 gonna cut it AND going to use it a lot THEN pick the 2.4.

IF you're low on cash OR economically smart AND will not use the macbook extensively THEN pick the 2.0.

My situation is:
  • I can afford it
  • Not sure which one to get
  • I'm going to use it all the time since it's going to be faster than my current desktop.

I intend to let my macbook work it all off, squeezing out everything it has to offer! I'll be taking it to school, train, work etc and when I get home I'll dock it. This means the macbook will be working most of the day and that extra CPU adds up to a lot during the day, and in the long run. That's why I chose the 2.4.

You just have to calculate the factors and try to make an accurate prediction of your needs.

Are you saying that the 2.0 cannot be used as a daily computer or as extensively as the 2.4 version? Because that is a totally incorrect insinuation.

Many users can use the 2.0 as their daily computer for 3-4 years to come. Using your computer "more" shouldn't justify buying the high end model.

The real world performance between the 2.0 and the 2.4 is neglible.

In 2 to 3 years time the 0.4 Ghz would have made no difference as both would be out of date already so buying more now doesn't really equate to getting ahead when you factor in depreciation.

Yet another person in the same boat. I could care less about the extra HD space and consider the keyboard thing nice, but not a deal breaker, so I don't feel like I'm exactly paying $300 for 400mhz since I would appreciate the extra things that come with it but the real purpose for going there is the 400mhz.

I plan on keeping this for at least 4 years, probably with an upgrade to 4GB RAM at some point down the line. Will I be glad I have that extra 400mhz both now and in 4 years, or will it make little to no difference now and then? If it will make my computer more 'usable' in those third and fourth years I'll gladly spend the extra $300 for the 400mhz, but if its gonna be negligible I'll pass.

It will be used for going on the web, light video editing, word, excel and (if it will run them even marginally well) diablo 3 and sc2 when they come out. Normal stuff.

Does everyone know about backlit keyboard?

According to jon4lakers, the keyboard is comprised of just TWO led lights underneath the keyboard which spreads the light across.

So you're paying a hefty preimum for just 2 leds.

If your in a money crunch go with the 2.0 spending the extra money to have 400 mhz more is not worth it. Besides it will be obsolete next year. :)

First of all Hi to every one

I personally bought the 2.4 ghz and from my knowledge .4ghz does give u a difference which can be noticed e.g extra frame rates when playin games and such.

and on the side about the price difference the extra .4 in the processor alone covers half of the price difference.

plus if u plannin to upgrade ur ram it will give u a boost aswell ........but at 2gb ram I dont expect there to be a difference because ram will be the limiting factor anyway.

and just for argument sake the GPU on the pro's runs twice as fast as the macbook including last gen models with the 8600GT

You gain like 1 fps with the 0.4 extra ghz...
