Can anyone one advise what macbook pro to buy please?

I've been using a 2012 with 16gb ram. I think I finally have to buy a new one. I run a few big programs Final Cut Pro X and Photoshop, etc (and always have a bunch of things open).

I'll buy one of the 13"

I was wondering if the lower entry one with the i5 processor and 8gb is sufficient? Or If I need the i7 and 16gb? (I'm on a very tight budget, so don't want to buy if not necessary)

And if I was to upgrade just one of them, what would make the biggest difference?
Upgrade the Ram to 16GB or Upgrade the Processor (I don't really know the different effects each has)

I plan on using an external HD for storage.

(And can't wait for the next generation of macbooks)

Thanks

I'm don't want to hi-jack the thread but I am in a similar boat to you. I have a 2012 13" 16GB RAM and 512 HDD. I want a new MBP but waiting for the next version as ideally I want TouchId without a TouchBar.

The 16GB Ram options seem like a 2 week build to order option which is silly so I was thinking of buying an 8GB version off the shelf. Either that or buy from a reseller as they seem to stock 16GB. I use mine for Logic and my current MBP, even without SSD, does a good job.

I think there are probably quite a few people with similar requirements to yourself so it will be interesting to hear what people say. Good luck with whatever you purchase.

Thanks. Any idea of any resellers in toronto Canada? (Random question, but I have a stopover there and have been googling for someone that might have a 13" with 16GB... but not having much luck).

Definitely get the 16gb. The processor upgrade will probably get you 10% faster, but for what they charge you shouldn’t get it.

If after getting the ram upgrade you have money to spare get the largest ssd possible (there’s no substitute for local storage).

I ordered an i5 16gb 512gb Touch bar MBP 13 a few days back.

Did you get it ? I’m about to order the exact same specs for a new MacBook Pro 13 and would like your view with your new one !

Why can't you wait? This might be the worst time ever to buy a macbook.

Some of us actually have to do work with our laptops. I needed one and was prepared to wait till WWDC and use a loaner. That option is now gone and I simply cannot wait till October or next year or whenever Apple decides to launch the new one.
Plus, I make more money with one than without, so the cost is justified to me. And if the new one is really amazing, I will just sell mine for cheap and put that money towards the new one.

I would not buy ANY 2017-design MBP.
Wait for the 2018's coming later this year.

Or... get a 27" 5k iMac instead.

I think all of us earn money by working on the go with our laptops. Will a 2017 model actually help you earn that money more than a refurb 2015 13" MBP?
