b) SAMSUNG 2343BWX for 199

Which is better? A 16:9 or a 16:10

The 16:10 has a tv tuner built in plus more inputs. However is this a better resolution? I have always used 16:10

Vertical pixels are your friend. Wide is great for movies and Photoshop (palettes!) but tall is good for documents, web pages, scanning a list of files... everything else, really.

i am having a really hard justifying getting this monitor as much as i want it

Totally agree, I would not go with a 16:9 monitor unless absolutely necessary. The shortening of the monitor leads to frustration because the scroll wheel will become more commonly used.
