I expect you will be buying a copy of Leopard with your netbook purchase?

Who cares? If you're attempting to put OS X onto a non-Mac, it's "wrong" anyway. Buying Leopard doesn't make it any more right, or justify the act.

Saying that, I want the HP 1000 to be more compatible with OS X. Here's hoping the unreleased HP Mini-note 2140 with the sexy aluminium casing will be more OS X friendly. :)

I got my Dell Mini 9 refurbished through Dell Outlet, and they periodically have 20% off coupons on top of that. I was able to get mine for $270 after tax + shipping, and it seems good as new. There's more info at this thread:

http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/888009/?start=500

I'm not sure if there are any coupon codes right now, but they seem to come around fairly often.

As far as looks, the Aspire One has the trackpad buttons on the side which some find annoying, and personally I find the Dell Mini better looking than the MSI Wind, mainly because the VGA/audio-in/audio-out are all black instead of the red/blue/green that MSI uses. The glossy cover of the Dell Mini is nice as well, and the Apple stickers from an iPhone/Apple In-ear Headphones are the exact right size to cover the "Dell" logo.

I'm planning to buy a netbook now, and I want to have OSX install so i don't have to bother with using XP or Linux.

Which one would be the best one to go for?
Which one is the easiest to get leopard installed? Now im choosing between
the MSI Wind, Acer Aspire One and Dell Mini 9. They all seem to be nice and work with OSX. but don't know which one is the easiest to have OSX installed?

Thanks for any input

I took two years off after being a PC and Mac techie, and now I see this? Wow. I had no idea it was that easy. When the 1999 iBook was the first to use UMArch, I saw some possible hack for really good techies, but when Apple started to use Intel processors, I couldn't really see why almost anybody wouldn't see a way in.

I will get a netbook but just use it for email, some internet, and word processing so XP will be just fine for me. I like OS X on my Power Mac and Mac mini and that's where I will do graphics or games if need be. I think OS X Leopard sounds a bit too big for a netbook. Aren't those netbooks slim on video processing capability? I couldn't see doing iMovie on a netbook as it would strain my eyes, even if a netbook has enough video RAM. ;)

^^^I still want the UI of Mac OS X, as that's what I'm used to. Also, I like having Exposé, Spaces, and Dashboard, as I use them all the time. Don't care about Time Machine on a netbook.

Also, I have purchased a few apps that I'd like to use on my netbook.

HP Mini-note 2140 = complete macbook rip off. But i like it :)

It's not a ripoff at all. The 2133 has the exact same aluminium body as the new 2140, and the 2133 was out before the Alu MacBooks.

Sorry, fanboys.

I am a fanboy, but what I thought was funny was when Apple first came out with the "black" Macbook option, as if "that" was original. :) Give me a break.

I saw past that but some completely blinded who think nothing exists outside of Apple were amazed at that beautiful black laptop as if Apple invented the concept. Outside of the Apple logo, it just looks like any PC laptop to me.

I'm a fan of the EEE 1000h; I've got everything working on mine including sleep, speedstep, sound, etc.

Now I'm leaning away from the Dell Mini 9 since it's relatively too expensive compare to the Taiwanese rivals... and Dell Canada doesn't seem like to offer any good deals or refurb ones on it.

I like the styling of Lenovo S10 the best, but Acer Aspire One is the cheapest to buy. Can't get my hand on any MSI at the moment. Which one do you guys recommend and which one is easier to install OSX.

Also, is it necessary to buy a XP if I just wanna use OSX in the future or Linux is fine so I can save some cash.

I'm looking into selling my MacBook and getting an iMac and netbook. I might PM you sometime to ask a few questions about the 1000H. Is that OK?

Hey relax... you're not his mother, let it go..... jeez

Just to let you both know the forum doesn't tolerate piracy. The forum should not help someone under those circumstances. The OP buying Leopard for their netbook is definitely a much more honest way to achieve what the OP is wanting, so good on them. Its definitely completely wrong to not buy it, pirate it and then install it.

There's an entire (old) thread on the hackintosh that has never been deleted, but thanks for telling me how things work around here. ;)

Thanks for all the great info guys. I've been toying with the idea of getting a netbook. My books this semester have grown and it's become too much to carry my macbook with me.

Is it hard to get OSX running on the EEE? I've no clue on coding or other advance technique ... So I hope it's relatively straight forward.

Did any of those postings mention asking for how to get pirated software or offer any links to sources of said pirated software? That's the difference. Arn tolerates hackintosh discussions as long as it doesn't involve obtaining pirated versions of OSX

Of course. How do you think I find out about things like TinyXP and the like? This is the only board I post at, so it must be from here.

Anyway, Arn's rules aren't the law, believe it or not. Installing OS X on anything but a Mac breaks Apple's EULA (end user licence agreement), even if you buy a brand new, separate version of Leopard for it. Funny how you tell people what's right and wrong based on your opinion of what's right and wrong. Perhaps your opinion of what is right and wrong isn't the only one out there. Some people will say that you're wrong for even suggesting that someone install Leopard on a netbook. Would you say, "No, it's OK for everyone to discuss. The EULA isn't something I'm totally against, and Arn seems to tolerate it. He even allows an OSx86 thread to continue."?

Breaking the EULA is wrong. Mac OSx86 project is wrong. Shame on you. ;)

Anyway.....

From everything that I've read, the MSI Wind is better than the 10" EeePC, although I'm sure they're 99% similar anyway. Since they're comparable, you may as well buy the MSI Wind if what you're looking for is OS X compatibility.

Theres tons of guides all over the internet, and plenty of forums targeted towards getting things working on various and assorted netbooks. If you can read, it's relatively straightforward.

And ya, feel free to PM me.

Perhaps the only opinion of what's right and wrong that matters, is yours. Thats the impression I get anyway...

If you are going to use OSX on a Mac, PC, or your favorite stuffed animal named Dilbert, by all means buy the software with your own money. I do not find any law or precedent against using OS X in the second or third restatements of the law (United States of America) if you bought it, but pirating OS X or Windows, or any OS, is not OK and more likely to see legal action if done en masse.

Throwing out your own opinions about what is legal or moral isn't what the damn place is for. Its a community, there is yet another enthusiast looking for help deciding which netbook to put Leopard on. The chart posted early on is excellent. The untested Sony mentioned later is in my opinion exactly what a netbook should be.
