Hello, I'm a realtor who does videos and need a new MacBook Pro. I have a 12 inch Mac and it is difficult to look at contracts on it. the 15 inch will be great, I also run 3 screens on my hackintosh.

1. Is it possible to run three screens on a the 15 inch? I would like this device to replace the Hackintosh and the MacBook.
2. Should I get the i9 since I will be outputting video? What is the % boost for $300?
3. I am okay with 512 GB, I am on 256 now and it is fine. I will be doing more photography so storage is always nice. I can get many backup drives for the price of the Storage being offered by apple.
4. What is the big deal with 32 gb of ram? Will this affect the performance of apps like Final Cut? What will I get in terms of performance for $400?
5. Would you rather upgrade the ram or the processor?

For what you do, the i9 and 32 GB of RAM are way overkill, those are for far more intensive tasks. Have you considered maybe a used 2016 or 2017 model?

Also just noticed in your sig that you have a 15" rMBP, why not use that?

The cheapest one will be more than enough. Like people said even an older one will work great, any MBP since 2016 can drive 3 displays. These are pro machines, you can do a movie production on i9/32gb machine.

I do extensive video editing for my real estate video and photography. I do not want a 2017 or 2016 model, the Hey Siri command is going to be useful. the 15 rMBP is sold actually, forgot to take it out. What would the 32 GB ram be useful for?

I make a lot of movies, if I were to upgrade something, would you recommend the 32 gb or the i9?

The basic 15" will still be plenty powerfull for that, going with an i9 may improve rendering time by a small margin, but for what I assume is a maximum of a few minuts real estate video you will not have any advantage with the i9.
The 32GB is useful for working on big projects with many inputs, processes and files. We are talking hollywood movie production here. So 16GB of ram should be fine for your usage since neither projects seems like big resource hogs. what I would get instead of CPU and RAM would be a bigger SSD.

When I meant by movie production was professional Hollywood production which not only means 4k, it also means toooons of extra footage, color correction and filters applied on the fly plus everything is uncompressed (!) and huge video lengths. Your final 10 minute video render will be 15 seconds or so, i9 might get it down to 14, if you think a saved second is important for you well...

If you want to upgrade something just for the sake of it, you can choose whatever you want. Maybe even get one of those $200 sleeves instead.

Gotcha! The one second is not going to save me lots of time or $. I’ll probably upgrade the ram and SSD! Thank you.

I'd echo people saying the base would be fine - I was in an edit suite the other day for a TV programme, they were editing on FCP on a 5K iMac from a few years ago with 16GB RAM. That was way more than enough.

To be honest I do light After Effects and Motion work, as well as Xcode/FCP on my dual core 13" with 8GB RAM. These can do more than you actually think.

I'd put the money into accessories personally, a nice sleeve or the dongles you'll be needing! Would also consider AC+ if there are still concerns about the keyboard.

Do you think the Upgraded Graphics card is worth 100? I would rather put that $100 towards an eGPU I think

Haha you really want to spend some money on something do you? What on EARTH is the egpu for? As for upgraded gpu, no, the base model will be more than blazing fast for your needs, hell, an iPad will even do all what you need.

I love gaming ;-)

Did you know that southweststandard.com is for sale?

Haven't updated my signature in years, sold that company a while back lol

The iPad Pro was not a fit for my business, I run Photoshop, Final Cut, Lightroom, Multiple Tabs, multiple browsers (our realtor apps are not optimized for different browsers) and input into the MLS was a nightmare. I will get a iPad mini 5 if it comes out with pencil support so that I can get signatures on it while out with clients :).

Gaming and Macbook Pros simply don't go together

you don't think so even with the new eGPU possibility? I can stick to my Switch and PS4 I guess. LOL. Seems like the base model with upgraded SSD and AppleCare is the way to go!

As others has said, for the type of video editing you do, a base 15" is already over kill so I wouldn't waste any money on any upgrades.

Personally I would probably just have got a 13" myself in your shoes.

I have a relative that does everything you do as a listing agent (he has his own team) and it works on a regular laptop, so if I were in your shoes, I would buy a decent 13/15 MBP and a gaming desktop. Or just use the gaming desktop for everything. If you really, really want to blow money, buy the $6k MBP with an awesome eGPU and overkill the thing. :D

Haha exactly. I think I will get the base, and upgrade my Hackintosh's GPU. Gotta spend $ on a dock and new cords. I'll save some money, just bought the Sony A7iii and planning on getting the new Apple Watch and upgrading my old iPad. Thanks man!

I hate that screen size, and really hate my 12 inch MacBook right now! For my presentations and contract reviewing the 15 inch is going to be awesome, I miss my 2013 MBP 15 inch.
[doublepost=1531497664][/doublepost]Thanks everyone, I will SETTLE for the base model. You guys are really persuasive

Why didn't you just say you want to game from the very start? I can game on my 2016 top spec 15" fine, just get the best gpu and a decent cpu (16gb is fine) and you can play almost anything on 1080p in med settings in boot camp.
But the best option will obviously be a base MBP and a pc.

I think that’s a good call - would definitely recommend an Apple Watch if you don't have one already, way more useful than I thought it'd be! Probably get more use/fun out of your money.
