I've amassed quite a collection, now, so I'd be extremely unhappy if my straps are incompatible with it.

Well, imho no change to band attachment.

the rumors on this dried out since the beginning of the year, latest rumors and drawings would indicate no change.
IF they were changing it, they will alienate a lot of buyers.
the band business for Apple is highly profitable, changing the attachment would likely result in more than 50% revenue loss imho, why would they do that?
the perfect opportunity would have been the Ultra, no one would have complained.
and as for adapter, all the bands that are fixed in length (solo, sport band etc) would become become “longer” and not fit anymore.

we’re like 6 weeks or so from finding out…

Good point.

Never thought about solos & BSLs being one size.

If they change the mechanism, it’ll be a staged thing, not a complete shift one model to the next. @jz0309 is right that the Ultra would’ve been the way to do it without alienating everyone, so if/when they do change, I expect it'll first come in on a new model (& existing straps will continue to work with another one released at that time).

Yeah I don’t see what benefits there are from changing it. I can’t see how changing it would enhance the strap connection to the watch.

As others have said, if they were going to do it, then the Ultra would have been the time to do it.

Maybe the watch X will be a totally new model and run alongside the series and the Ultras?

I believe Apple will make a lot of people very unhappy, myself included if they completely
change to a new band attaching system, making the current bands obsolete.
From a marketing standpoint, and maintaining the highest profitability, which is the number one concern for Apple,
and without alienating a lot of customers, if the system does change it would make sense for an adapter to be available to use current bands.
Another great idea for Apple would be to offer Apple Watch Classic, using the current connectors for those that have a lot of current bands.
As someone who hopes for the best, but prepares for the worst,
Besides my Ultra I have a series 9 SS and a Series 9 Hermes SBSS so for the next 5 years I’ll be able to enjoy my band collection regardless of what happens and if it’s the scenario with an available adapter, I’ll get a series x to add to my watch collection if I like the style and features.

Read an article today, supposedly from a reliable source, sorry don’t have a link, that band connectors will remain the same. Keeping my fingers crossed. Less than a month to go.
