I'll make sure to get a copy of it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Really though, there won't be anything critical ever put on this machine that needs backed up. An OS.. AOL... other than that.. it'll just sit there and look all Dell-ish. :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:(

Norton is the Virus, it infects your entire system, and can only be completley removed with a fresh instalation of the OS after the HDD has been deleated.

Re: Which of these two PC's would you buy?

Please no "get her an iMac" posts... frankly, out of the question.

My Mom is trying to learn how to "use the web." For the past few weeks she's been frustrated with an old celeron 400, [/B]

Norton Ghost is a very useful utility that has absolutely nothing to do with day-to-day operation of the machine. I've never seen Norton trash a system like you describe - maybe it was a user error.

Quit the FUD.

While not really sure what Norton Ghost does (it sounds suspect,) System works and Norton Anti Virus (especially,) have caused many many more problems than they could ever fix. Norton Anit Virus has more pop-up's than Win XP. They drain System resources and gennerally slow down your system. Stay away, and you would be better off just keeping your system up to date with Windows update.

FUD:confused:

Norton Ghost is an enterprise level utility for mass distribution of disk images. Ask any PC lab tech and they'll tell you it's a great app.

FUD = Fear Uncertainty Doubt

When you make outrageous claims based on insufficient info, you are spreading FUD.

@Opteron
Norton Utilities are actually very good in the windows world. I have been running their corporate antivirus for the last 3-4yrs and have NEVER had a virus get through because of it, it runs quiety (no popups or constant msgs), it updates it's virus defs at scheduled times, and I don't even know it's doing it (it just sits in the system tray and does t itself), it uses near no system resources, it's great! Ghost is used all the time by large firms, they just keep a ghost image of their build, then image new client PC's as an when they are needed, and it only take about 5-10mins to do so, again, it's great!

So, what am I trying to say (other than you're wrong :eek: ;) :D), Norton make good products, don't go putting people off.

Isn't that what the whole mac community is about, putting people off x86 based machines, and getting them to use macs?

Other than that I have found that Norton causes more problems than it fixes (esp. on slower machines.)

It's great that you've had a good experience with Norton (Symantec) stuff, not everyone has. Personally, I would not go near SystemWorks or NAV.

Alas, my preferred disk imaging company, PowerQuest, is now a part of the yellow evil empire.
