first, I don't have experience to compare 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, so I can't comment on your statements of every OSX new version increase efficiency of using RAM.

Then why did you comment? Besides, he didn't say that newer version of OS X use memory more efficiently. He said that newer versions of Mac OS X tend to be faster on the same hardware.
 
They don't seem to be even really. For the RAM I would assume you have 2x512 sticks now, and you're looking at $160-$200 for 2x1GB sticks. And selling the 512s is a pain. Whereas Leopard should be $129. If that is the case, and it is an either or, get the RAM, sell the 512s, and then you should have 1/2 the money to buy Leopard yourself, or all of it at the student price. Then again I don't know what you'd get for a pair of 512s, don't know anyone who'd want them.
 
I'd go for the RAM now and if Leopard turns up with some features you feel you really need then you'll have time to sell your siblings into slavery to get the money.

Id go for ram,leopard will prob want more ram then tiger,
