I have decided on:

MacBook Pro 15.4" + Apple Cinema HD Display 23"

I may be heading over to San Francisco to Macworld 07 with my job so if I do I'll order my setup the minute after the keynote has finished. Depending on how the job goes over the next 6 months, I may be able to push that Cinema to a 30", but for now I'm set on a MBP + ACD 23" on January 9th 07.

Thanks for the help! :)

i have a iMac and an iBook(which is alot like the 1st option but its sometimes hard to keep them in sync with all the same important files(which are few for me) so i would say go 15'' MBP or 13'' MB(maxed out to make up for any lost speed from the 15'') with a 23'' ADC. Also wait for Merom, even if you go MacBook as they might get faster or cheaper or BOTH!

Edit- If i had look at the post above me i would have seen you went with a similar set up to wait i would have gone for. Opps

I know it is not a popular opinion, but .Mac really does make backup easy.

I don't actually mean using Backup 3 (although it isn't bad, I can't vouch for it because I've never had to recover from an archive), but rather simply keeping one's important documents on one's iDisk.

I know that option is also available w/ one computer (and then you can download the files onto someone else's computer if you really need them post-hard-drive-crash) but...

Its not just backup; .Mac, in allowing seamless sync'ing of your bookmarks, keychain, etc etc, really does make using multiple machines a pleasure.

.Mac is a fantastic choice/option. If it's not popular around here, it's because people are stingy.

There is something about that new mac smell... My name is Brandon and I am a macaholic.

Anyone else get high off new Macs?

Good choice Glenn. You already have an iMac, so you'll love your new MBP. I guess your job is going pretty good if you're going to able to make it to San Francisco in '07. :)

Okay, I've made my mind up:

- iMac 1.83Ghz Core Duo, 17", 1.5GB RAM.

- MacBook 1.83Ghz Core Duo, 13.3", 1.5GB RAM.

I'm swapping my current PPC Intel iMac with my Mums Intel one, and buying an extra gig of RAM to take it to 1.5GB. I'll also order another 1GB chip for the MacBook to take it to 1.5GB.

I may also purchase

- Apple Wireless Keyboard
- JBL Encounters 2.1

I should be ordering within 1-2 weeks, I cant wait!

i have a 12" PB and a g4 mac mini... at first it was cool because i had the mini hooked up on the same desk as the PB, but now it's hooked up to my HDTV and simply functions as a download/print 'server'. I use the 12" PB as my main comp and the mini just sits there. Occasionally my girlfriend will use it for her school work, but basically its a print server since there's not enough room on my desk to house the printer, it sits under the TV with the mini. I will be getting a 17" MBP to replace my 12" PB and it will possibly be hooked up to an external display. I HAVE to run some accounting software on a Winblows machine, so that's why i'm going with the MBP... in my opinion, its MUCH easier having one portable with an external display.

Glenn, I would go for the MacBook 2.0GHz for now and hang in there for the
Merom or Conroe based iMac or new Mac Pro tower due shortly.

I would not put all my money into Yonah based machines if you can avoid it.

Glenn, I forgot about your Mom's Core Duo iMac. That'll be awesome. Swapping with her was a good idea. Didn't even think of that one. You'll love the MacBook. Then you'll have a portable machine and a desktop machine of the same power, so you won't be sacraficing power when you take your MacBook somewhere with you. So, 1-2 weeks you said? That's soon. :) Be sure to post some pics!

MacBook Pro 15" + 23".

Working across two machines is never easy, keeping data in synch etc. One powerful laptop with a nice external screen at home is the way I would go.

I agree. There's nothing like taking your laptop with you to work on something that you forgot you started and left on the desktop, and didn't copy to the laptop. I gave up on that a long time ago.

LOL those 3G's are burning a hole in your pocket, Glenn. :D

Glenn just balance it out with 1.5GB and 1.5GB. That way you have basically the same machine just in different packages. That way, you are never sacraficing power when you take your MacBook someplace with you. :) Just my point of view...
