I had the defender for my 3gs... If you work outdoors or are very active (jogging, mountain climbing, etc), this is the case for you. I've dropped it on concrete, bricks, and every hard surface imaginable. No damage. It also has little silcone thingys that cover the headset jack and dock connector.

Frankly, I don't know what I'm gonna do without an Otterbox for the next 2 months!

Agreed. I loved my Otterbox Defender.

BUT...

Until then, here is what I did:
- invisbleShield (full) + Bumper

Decent (if not expensive) compromise.

Otterbox isnt releasing these until 2 more months?!?! This cant be true

Lol but i had the Defender for my 3GS since release....its in perfect condition. Will be going that same route with the iPhone 4

i highly doubt 2 months. they already have models of them on their site. also, i have the defender on my 3GS and i loved it too but these new models look real nice too...i may have to see them in person lol or watch some review when theyre released. decisions decisions...

I'd like to get a Defender, but it seems too bulky and expensive, how much more shock protection does the Commuter have over the Impact? Or is Commuter just a hard case, not necessarily more shock-proof than the impact?

They look like renders to me.

The defender is way way too bulky.

I had the commuter on my 3GS, good mix of style and protection

Have a Defender for my 2g and it is definitely bulky but I liked the included holster. My iPhone looks like it did as it came out of the box. Never could get rid of the oil-spill effect with the screen protection though so I cut it out.

I think the Defender is Otterbox's best case mainly because of its durability and protection when the phone slips out of your hand. However, it's way too bulky and I've had issues with the audio while using it. Also, I'm not too sure what the timeline is for some of these case companies with respect to their iPhone 4 case lines - might be a couple more weeks I think.

Otter has really turned into a bunch of morons lately. The iPad cases are still NOT out, and they told me they can't tell me when they will be out. So don't hold your breath. Business 101 is apparently a course they didn't take.

Is the defender the only one where you don't have to install the screen protector? I can't put those on for the life of me.

I just left BB and they have Otterbox in stock for the 4. I didn't look at which model Otterbox it was though!

The defender, had it on my 3g. I open the case up the other day and the phone looked brand new, no scratches, no nothing. Keep in mind I work outside all the time, have dropepd my phone more than once, my kids even used the phone while they were having a water ballon fight (don't ask why). I'll get a wrapsol, with a bumper while I wait for my defender case.

I'm with you. The defender has the screen protector on the case already, this was one of my favoriate features. You just snap the case shut, and put the rubber cover on top of the case. Voila water tight, highly protected iphone 4.

That screen protector was one of the worse IMO. I actually cut mine out and used my Zagg instead.
