...1920 x 1080 for a single 1.8GHz PCI (not PCI-X) G5? Does it exist? Something that is plug and play. Preferably HDMI or DP.

No GPUs which are covered by drivers on OS X on PPC have DP or HDMI. If you want to use a modern GPU which has these, you need to run another OS. As far as OS X is concerned:

For 2560×1600, I assume you want 60 Hz refresh, i.e. you need dual-link DVI. The Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition and Radeon 9650 (that one came with the Early 2005 G5s) are passively cooled and have that.

For 1920×1080, any passively cooled card with single-link DVI will do... even a measly GeForce FX 5200 Ultra thanks to external TMDS transmitters.

Would a flashed Radeon FireGL 3 also support 2560x1600? I have one of those in a 2.7Ghz DP G5. It was preflashed by the eBay seller and dropped right in. AGP though, not PCI.

Radeon 9600, 9800, X800 or X850 Mac Edition and a DVI to HDMI-Cable?

EDIT: Oh passively cooled… GeForce 5200 and 9600 Pro Mac Edition (1980x1080 @ 60 Hz)

You have 3 options:

- settle with 30Hz (and a monitor that will do that), all you need is a simple passive adaptor
- get a monitor with DualLink-DVI input and one of the cards that support it
- get an active DL-DVI_2_DP adaptor (those exist but come at a price).

- settle with 30Hz (and a monitor that will do that), all you need is a simple passive adaptor
Single-link DVI is limited to 165 MHz pixel clock which is enough for 2560×1440 at 41 Hz or 2560×1600 at 37 Hz using CVT-RB timings. The monitor needs to accept these custom timings though.

- get an active DL-DVI_2_DP adaptor (those exist but come at a price).
I've had several I got off eBay (and passed on to people who "really" needed one), IIRC I always paid around 30 bucks or so. So it's worth waiting for one to come up at a decent price.

Thanks all. With this information I think I am going to just stay with the 5200 already installed.

thats very interesting! could you make a ROM dump of your X800 XT Mac edition? and upload it somewhere for us to have play with?

that ROM version is way later then anything i have seen on an X800 XT Mac edition

the latest I know of is 113-A35801-109

but your version is 113-A3580A-202

the A vs 1 is also very interesting, as normally that middle section does not change between ROM versions, unless the base card itself is different...

(for example an X850 XT is 113-A35804-112)

but the Device ID of your X800 XT is the same as any other X800 XT or X850 XT Mac edition 4a48

(and I managed to find the property listing from a Mac Edition dump from years back to verify that this time!)

could you post a screenshot of what ATI Displays has to say about? (specifically what it says under Info/profile)

oooooh just had a thought as to why the different Card Number, @TzunamiOSX what Make/model of VRAM chips does your X800 XT have?

I wonder if we finally have a ROM for all the Infineon VRAM'ed FireGL X3's out there?

for those unaware most Mac X800 XT/X850 XT's have Samsung VRAM, but some FireGL X3's have Infineon VRAM which is incompatible with the Mac ROM, (well you can make it work but you have to down clock the crap out of your VRAM)

I have a FireGl X3 on it's way to me, so if it has the Infineon VRAM we'll look and see if we can fix the RAM Timings in the FCode ROM. It's easy with the nVidia cards because of the shared NVDA,BMP, but ATI cards are much harder to decode.

Does anyone have the PC VBios from one of the X3 cards with Infineon VRAM, I found one that had the Samsung RAM to compare, but I can't find the Infineon VRAM VBios?

I have a X3 with Infineon VRAM. I think I have the PC ROM on my Computer. When I’m back to my room I will post it here.
