After the September event, one would expect the iPhone 13 to drop by $100 to $699 and the 13 mini to drop by $100 to $599. But what would occupy the $499 slot? I doubt it will be the 12 because that would be a $200 drop for the 12. And I doubt they will sell both a 12 mini and a 13 mini. So will the iPhone 11 continue at $499? That would be two years for it at that price. Or they could bump up the storage for the 11 to 128GB at $499.

I think the iPhone 12 mini. It was launched as a low-cost 5G device and will continue to play that role. In the long term, I see a refreshed SE filling the $499 slot.

NAND is where the money maker is, so they're unlikely to give it away. I expect Apple to copy the iPad strategy of offering only 64GB and 256GB with iPhone 12 mini which maximize margins.

Other than the 2022 SE, there may not be a sub-$500 phone after the 14s launch. I doubt the iPhone 11 will still be available (new) and therefore the next cheapest phone would potentially be the 12 mini which, if $100 less than today, would be $529. They may also even drop the 12 mini and only offer the mini as a 13 model which would therefore mean the regular 12 or 13 mini would be cheapest at $629 (if $100 less than today).

Yeah they'll kill the 11 and 12 lines. It'll go SE 2022 - 13 series (all variants, at a $100 price cut) - 14 series (all variants, at a $100 price bump)

I think they'll still keep the regular iPhone 12 around for another year. As far as the 14s go, rumors have been that only the "Pro" models will be seeing a price increase. Also, there will be no 14 mini.

Inflation WILL blow away our historical expectations of price drops on last years models.. I think we will see price rises for new versions (like for like) and no/little price cuts on current gen phones.

The next 12 months will see continued inflation and Apple knows it...

I'm not so sure, at least in the U.S. Although not as high as it is now, inflation was already on the high side (and rapidly climbing) last year yet prices for the new 128GB and 256GB iPhone 13 and 13 mini actually dropped $50 versus comparable 12 launch prices. Prices for 13 Pro and Pro Max models stayed the same as comparable 12s.

The prices for 12 and 12 minis were reduced by $100.

I imagine Apple may have assumed we'd be seeing continued (and even increasing) inflation when they launched the iPhone 13s last year too. Inflation in September 2021 when the 13s launched was 4.5 times higher than it was when the 12s had launched the previous year.

Agreed, we saw it in action in July with MacBook Air M1/M2 pricing. Apple tried to eat it last year, but it's unsustainable in the long term.

Given the small performance difference expected between 13 and 14, I doubt Apple will drop the price for those. Too much chance of cannibalizing 14 sales. More likely they will just drop the 13 altogether (with the possible exception of 13 mini at current price) like they did with iPhone X when Xs was released.

At that point, no need to change the price for any of the other phones (11, 12, SE) either.

I was thinking the same thing. Bunch of people waiting for the 14 to drop so they can get a 13 on discount, but may end up disappointed.
