By default it uses 1680x1050 resolution, which seems a bit small for the eyes, 1440x900 is more easy on the eyes than 1680x1050. I wonder about the retina scaling in 1440x900 it's X2 scaling (so it's more crisp probably) vs 1680x1050 (which seems like X1.5?)

What resolutions do you use?

Yeah - I cheat a bit by having some things larger to compensate.

Typing messages on the Line App sucks, but that's about the only drama really.

I tried to go back to the standard res, but I've become to used to the 1920 x 1200 after a year (was not aware it helped drain the battery life during that time, otherwise I may ova effaced myself to stick with the default)

Do you sit very close to the MBP? I'm using MBP on a stand with external keyboard, anything higher than 1440x900 is hard to read for me, requires to squint.

About average I think - something like just working on a desk in a normal situation.

My eyes are fading but its worse for things at a distance!

Evidently default is ideal for battery life / performance, but do don't want to be squinting so what ever is the most comfortable for you is best regardless of what anyone tells you IMHO.

You mean "default" as 1680x1050 or as 1440x900? When i had MBP 15" 2014 it was by default on 1440x900 it was comfortable, but apple now ships newer MBP's with 1680x1050.

Also regards battery life / performance, i've read that 1440x900 is optimal, because it's X2 scaling and looks sharper. I guess many people that use 1680x1050 on a 13" or 15" have a perfect eyesight? Mine isn't bad at all either, but still, it's uncomfortable for me.

My OS says default is 1680 x 1050, which I read somewhere means the computer is doing 'less' scaling work so less power consumption. But I don't really understand how it all works.

FWIW, In safari I have the window zoomed in 1 step (ie. I press '⌘+' once to zoom in from the original size).

1440 x 900. 1440 x 900 was the default value when retina Macs were introduced in 2012. I’ve been using that resolution since. 1680 x 1050 is too small for me after being adjusted to 1440 x 900 for 7 years. It looks best in this resolution.

Yeah, i think the same way, 1440x900 is optimal for 15"

Does scaling cause text to become less sharp/blurry like in Windows 10? I tried it, I don't know if it's just in my head or not but I felt the text to not be as sharp as the native resolution. Your thoughts?

On MBP 15" if you scale to looks like 1440x900 you'll get exact 2X scaling, which results in a best looking resolution. Default setting - 1680x1050 is not so sharp, like 1440x900, because it's not 2X scaling, your gpu would be doing more work. So text is a bit blurry on everything, except 1440x900 at least on MBP 15"

Perfect! Thanks a lot for this tip bro

I use 1440x900, previous generations of the MBP got me used to it and I didn't like the switch.
