^^Oh c'mon, what happens when you want to pee at night?

Actually, seriously, I never get up in the middle of the night. If I ever get out of bed, I can't get back to sleep. I make sure I pee before I go to bed, and if I have to go in the middle of the night, I just hold it until morning.

I sleep on the left side of the bed (as you look at it from the foot).
But I don't use a pillow and I sleep about 18 inches from the head of the bed
so my feet hang over the end as I get cramp in my feet and calves if I don't.

i think the only reason I pick the left side is because it is closer to the door... less likely to disturb wife at night

Similar here, but the other way round. My partner always sleeps closer to the door so not to disturb me as he's always up and about at the slightest noise and I can sleep through a typhoon (as actually proved once during a trip to Indonesia). So in our bedroom in London it's on the left, but at our second home in Spain on the right.

For some reason, I'm usually the closest to the door and furthest from the alarm clock. In our last apartment, that was the right (facing the bed). When we moved apartments - the same layout, as we only moved b/c the smoke from our neighbor's apartment was trespassing and violating our right of quiet enjoyment - I switched sides. The only time that isn't true is when we visit my parents. There, I sleep furthest from the door and nearest the alarm clock.

I sleep on whatever side isn't taken. :D

My stomach. head facing left. one hand under pillow, one on stomach. I've been doing that for years. can't breathe through my nose if I face right?

oh and duvet wrapped around like a cocoon. yea. stange :D

Since marriage I've always slept on the right - I always sleep with my right hand under my face.

What is strange about all of this? When my son was born three weeks ago - he did the same thing - in fact he was even doing it when we had a 20 week scan done. We assumed at the time he was sucking his thumb.

The world is a strange and mysterious place.

on the left, when facing the bed. it's nearest the door. i have a thing with feeling like i can escape easily or something. i usually sleep on my side, curled in a ball, occasionally on my stomach. never on my back, but my strange vampire-like husband sleeps on his back with his hands folded on his chest. he's scary like that or something. :p oh and i always need some sort of white noise, (the aquarium, a fan, etc) silence keeps me wide awake. <shrugs>

Hmm my parents used to have only one alarm clock. At some point in time my mom ended up buying another one for herself as well. So now they have 2 alarm clocks that are set for each one respectively. Also I noticed that they seem to get up at about the same time every day of the week. I dont know what that would be like to never really sleep in.

As for that I tend to sleep about dead center of the bed and in a have curld up half stomach position and slightly from corner to corner (I am 6'4" beds are not long enough for me)

Head at the west end of the bed, feet at the east, on my left side facing north (duh) facing the wall/window. I try sleeping on my right side but it just doesn't work. One year though... I slept in a giant hammock. So comfortable and opened up the room when I took the hammock down.

I'm sure my directions would be different if my bed/room was positioned differently.

Standing at the foot of the bed looking towards the head, I'm on the right side. Usually on my stomach ["What's this lump I'm sleeping on? Oh, it's just me"], sometimes on my side.
I can go from wide awake to dead asleep in less than a minute, at any time.
And I snore, apparently. My wife says she hits me and throws her pillows at me to roll over and cease snoring, but I have no recollection of any of that ever happening.:D

Did I also mention that I always have to sleep on my stomach and can't sleep on my back?

ME TOO!!
I dont know why, if I sleep on my back I cant fall asleep at all, and right when I turn on my stomach I fall right to sleep.
Also, I've notice I can never ever fall asleep when its a fullmoon.
Oh and it has to be really cold in my room. I mean really cold :D

Ah, my sleeping patterns are odd...but i must say, i do hug the wall that my bed is next to a lot.

Ditto. :) I find it comfy to lie that way. But I can only sleep on my back if my girlfriends in bed too. Also! Any drop of fluid in my bladder and I will not sleep. again, unless my girlfriends there.

Sleep is strange.

OH! and my grandma once said that she can't sleep unless she's cleaned her teeth. guess what compulsive disorder I picked up from that :D suppose it means I have good teeth though...

I hope it wasn't sleeping with your Grandma

I usually lie back down with my hands on my chest for a while. I find it very difficult getting to sleep so I need "switch off" time. Then I toss and turn for a while, much like SilentPanda's avatar in fact. Then the dog jumps on the bed, starts scuffling around, farts and grunts ... to which I respond with a gentle kick. Once he's settled down, I nod off a few minutes later.

It's all very precise, like an old swiss watch.

You have 3 walls surrounding your bed? Are you in a closet or something? Not talking about sexuality or anything......just askin'.

I sleep on the side which shows me the most love that night. Sometimes I won't be able to sleep on either side of the bed.

nah, i'll find a pic.. my room is just shaped kinda weird (as it's an attic), the bed perfectly fits one end of it.

We used to have a bed exactly the same – once again, in an attic room. The only way you could get into it was from the bottom. Unfortunately my then-girlfriend had a habit of getting up in the middle of the night to go to the loo, and when she clambered back into bed I'd usually end up with a knee or elbow in my groin. I usually woke up pretty quickly

Luckily, we're no longer together.

Ahh....now we are discussing sleeping position as well?

I sleep on my stomach most of the time. By "on my stomach," I mean in my belly, arms at my side, legs straight, head tilted back (as in I sleep with my throat on the pillow) and don't move the entire night - when I was young and first started doing that, my mom thought something had happened to me. Sometimes I sleep in the fetal position. In the rare moments that I am really tired and fall asleep some other way, I flop a lot in my sleep.
