And these people are, what, or who, exactly? I don't recall ever coming across one of those names in any context.......

This, in turn, begs the question of what exactly it is that the OP attempting to measure? What is the nature of the contest?

Now, of course, I am probably showing my age (I do not fall into the 15-35 year old demographic so beloved of the advertising industry...) along with my complete and utterly unapologetic total lack of awareness of the nuances of US popular culture.......

They're NBA basketball players. I'm assuming he's asking if, of two hypothetical teams of NBA players (former and current) played, which would win.

lol at this thread. and whoever coach Jackson is, um, coaching. I tend to team A since I loved Marbury back then. :D

I've heard of Shaquille O'Neal. None of the others. What I know about basketball, mostly comes from the film Teenwolf!

What about Space Jam? :(

I pick the team with Michael Jordan
Oops, he isn't listed, my bad... or OP's bad

There are much better choices than the ones listed actually

I think they're all basketball players.

As to which team would win, that would depend on what they're doing.

Thank you, guys! Wonderful! How kind of you to put me out of my misery and satisfy my curiosity as to what exactly this was all about.

Ask for clarification online, and questions shall be answered, by several helpful, and thoughtful people, (not by the OP, the context of whose post was unclear to those of us who are not aficionados of the game of basketball).....ah, well, so, I have learned something - indeed, something - new today.

These are: 1) Basketball matters, especially in parts of the US. (A lesson I had forgotten; I do however, remember the drama surrounding the 'dream team' of the late 1980s, and how basketball, as a consequence, was a matter of supreme importance in some unlikely locations, such as Lithuania.)

and 2) Some of the names of the players are very familiar indeed, to a US based readership, as the names of soccer players might be in the UK or continental Europe....

I heard of Shaquille O'Neal, and recently I heard someone talking about LeBron, but I thought that was a paper towel or something.

I don't follow professional or college sports. I might watch the superbowl and sometimes world cup games. That's about it.

How about I make my own team of players not already taken and I will limit it only those players I've actually seen play:

PG: Earvin "Magic" Johnson
SG: Micheal "Air" Jordan
SF: Larry Bird
PF: Dirk Norvinsky
C: (H)Akeem Olajuwon

Team 3 wins. I've chosen the best at every position except PF, since Garnett was already taken.

LeBron is better than either of the forwards as well.

oh my god, the lack of basketball knowledge here is extremely lacking,

funny posts though, i guess the demographics on here aren't that young, but you dont have to be in with popular culture or young for the matter of fact

to enjoy basketball.

wait, you've seen Dirk Nowitzki play and not Kobe, Iverson, Or Shaq?!?

even though team 3 has all time greats, nobody on that team would be able to stop shaq,

let alone a Shaq + KG frontcourt. no way, plus with the combinations of Kobe , Vince Carter , T-Mac, Ray Allen, and have Iverson and Starbury at the point.

thats a ridiculous team, to be fair i filled in with Sheed and LO, but those spots we're supposed to be Duncan and Dirk

if you didn't notice im basically comparing the early 00s era to the late 00s era.

and i wouldn't go far as "MUCH" better choices, im mostly picking out from 2 of the top 3 draft classes of all time.

Allen Iverson is the best little man to ever play the game, CP3, Derrick Rose, old or new, nobody can guard him and hold him down or even compete with him, he single handedly took his team to the finals and gave the lakers the only lost of their playoffs that year.

Marbury in his prime was one of the Top PG in the league, wasn't too many dudes that can stop him either, again i tried to play fair instead of Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, etc i picked Marbury, because Allen Iverson is too overwhelming

Kobe Bryant, Enough said, the only player that can be considered equal to or better than his airness

Ray Allen, the all time 3PT leader in NBA history, and thats not the only thing he can do, he can make plays for others and finish inside with some authority (when he was younger)

Tracy McGrady, he's a 6'9 players in a shooting guards frame, this dude in his prime was unstoppable, so far you double team anyone in this roster you're going to get points, T-Mac is one of the most physically gifted players of all time, almost magic like in terms of his body size and what position he plays, and how he dominated for those 4-5 years.

Vince Carter, the all time best dunker in NBA history, and also one of the most physically gifted players of all time, not only can he do insane dunk contest dunk within a real game, dude was clutch, he can defend, shoot, and pass, in which i believe he was underrated in all categories.

Kevin Garnett, the poster boy of a traditional Power forward, and he did it damn well, high post, low post, mid range jumpshots, passing, dribbling he did it all, and that wasn't even his fort-ay, it was his defense, and not to mention he was clutch like an all time great should be, hitting timely shots, and game winners, theres only a few PF that are better than or up in the same level as him, that list is very thin.

Lamar Odom, again picked him to make the teams a bit fair, if i picked Dirk or Duncan (duncan is interchangeable from Center to Power Forward), but thats no knock on him, lamar odom is a swiss army knife, a Magic Johnson esque player a 6'11 forward in a centers frame, that can shoot, dribble, and pass, dude his a point forward and hes 6'11, players like him are very rare. and he compliments the team much better than a duncan or another traditional power forward

Shaquille O'Neal, enough said, one of the most dominant players to ever play the game, nobody can stop him, not even if u had the whole team guarding him. a great physical specimen

Rasheed Wallace, a shooting bigman, passionate, an all star, iconic with the "Ball Dont Lie" line, agian picked him to balance out the teams.

i think my team is justified, pretty good enough to me, and there isnt too many players in the past that can top them.

I would go with team 2. Especially if Dwight is pre-Dwightmare Dwight. Although I would replace Deron Williams with D-Rose.

EDIT: And get rid of Amare and put Kevin Love in. Then get rid of Bynum and put in Hibbert. Maybe replace Monta with a taller point guard, maybe D Will there after being replaced with D-Rose.

Lamar Odom,

He just got arrested so I don't think he can play.

Anyways, how many basketball fans actually play the sport? I always find it weird how some people are really into a sport and are very critical of the players yet don't actually participate in the sport themselves

wait, you've seen Dirk Nowitzki play and not Kobe, Iverson, Or Shaq?!?

I've seen all the those guys play. Magic > Iverson, Jordan is the GOAT man, the GOAT. Olajuwan schooled the other great Centers of his time (Mr. Robinson, Ewing and Shaq). Dirk was the weakest player in my line up. Maybe I should have an ALL WHITE team. I'd have Stockton, Mullin, Bird, No..er..the German guy who's name I can't ever get right, and Divac (pretty thin at white center). Kevin McHale as back ups.

What about Detlef Schrempf? :D lol, some secure 3pointer for your team, no?

lol this is like a "fanatsy", its not like any of these teams would be realistic. so its not like any of them would play together int hise dream team of mine.

shaq is retired, marbury blackballed/retired from the nba, AI retired/blackballed, T-mac retired, Sheed retired, Lamar Odom blackballed for now.

of course most fans play the sport, i mean how can you really understand the game if you dont? how it feels to be on fire/in the zone, clutch shots, crossovers, fakes, post ups, dibble penetration.

basketball is probably the easier sport you can play, especially in LA where theres a lot of courts (considering we're a basketball city) all you need is a ball. i mean that main sport i played and still play,

baseball, football, etc you need some sort of equipment, not much but its just way simpler to just keep a ball in your trunk and just pop it out whenever you play ball with friends.

No KD? No MJ? WTF OP

I'll pick #1 out of the two though.

If I was going to make a super-team right now

PG: Russell Westbrook/Kyrie Irving
SG: James Harden/Kobe Bryant
SF: Durant/Melo (can be PF also)
PF: LBJ (actually SF)/Timmy D/LeMarcus
C: Dwight Howard/Roy Hibbert

(interesting note, this lineup also pisses me off because OKC would have had 3/5 of my starting lineup at one point)

All time great team

PG: Magic/Isiah Thomas
SG: MJ/Kobe/AI
SF: Bird/Dr. J
PF: Duncan/Barkley/Malone
C: Kareem/Wilt/Shaq/Hakeem

Well, if all players are in their prime, you would have a problem stopping Team 1.
I don't like the idea of prime AI and Kobe sharing the backcourt, but the floor spacing is really good. Prime KG and Shaq on the same team... scary. KG doesn't need the ball to be effective, Shaq can't be stopped 15ft within the basket, Kobe, Allen and AI are going to get their shots from the outside. the only problem I see is managing the personalities.

Here's the starting team I wish the Celtics had...
Kyrie Irving
James Harden
Paul George
LeMarcus Aldridge
Andre Drummond or Roy Hibbert

Yep... all very young and promising players.

That team would be a dynasty in the making. Harden is already the best SG in the league. (Sorry Kobe or DWade).
