OK, well, this news from the WSJ about retina coming to iPad has given me cold feet. I know the current model has a nice display, but I did really notice the low res when reading web pages and books on it at the Apple store. I think for us it might make sense to wait for it, so that we don't have a burning desire to upgrade in 6 months.

Valentine's Day, I guess?

Bear in mind that the rumor HAD been it was coming shortly...now it's that they couldn't get enough of a panel like that, so it'll probably be for the iPad 3 (or some of them) next year.

You might also want to consider getting your hands on a $100 HP TouchPad (if possible) for use while you wait for the iPad 3 to be released next year. :)

Yeah, depending on what you want to use it for that's not a bad idea. I'll buy one for $100 if I actually find one... (really disappointed HP's throwing in the towel though).

I am looking to buy an iPad for an anniversary present for my wife, but I can't decide between the iPad 1 and 2. I can get the 1 for $429 with 64gb and 3G (new) at the university bookstore, or pay full price for an iPad 2, but then I would likely get the 16 or 32 with wifi. I can't decide which makes more sense.
Thoughts?

Where can I buy one for $429? Anyone?

thx

Sounds like it was being clearanced out at a university book store.

IMO $430 is too much for an iPad 1 though. I woudln't pay $300 for one when the 2 is $500+

I tried to get the touchpad to tide her over until iPad 3, but no luck. Lots of time wasted.

I think I might actually just go ahead with the iPad 2. They seem to hold their value really well on eBay, so we can just sell it (or give it to a family member) when 3 comes out.

The $429 was at the university bookstore.

I've had no luck finding a Touchpad either :-/ (As though I really need one since I just bought an iPad 2 right before the price drop, but still :-D )

One...strange thing is Verizon's plan prices aren't what Apple says they are. I guess they must have changed them or something. Instead of $35 for 3GB, it's $30 for 2...which is overall worse, but at least still has $10/GB like it did before. (I think the $20 plan is like $20/GB still, but I'm not 100% sure.)
