Okay so I currently have an iPhone 6S and my contract ends in October. I'm looking to upgrade but not sure which phone to get. My brother (who works at an Apple Store) has the 7 Plus 128gb currently and would be willing to sell that to me when he upgrades. Or I could get an 8 Plus or X when the new iPhone drops in the fall. Or I could get the newest model that will be released. I was playing with the iPhones in the Apple Store yesterday and I do like how the iPhone X feels in the hand vs the 8 Plus. The iPhone X is almost as slim width wise as the "standard" iPhone. Yet I do like the screen size and ratio of the 8 Plus vs the X. Both certainly are excellent screens in terms of colour, clarity, readability, etc. I do think I'm still a fan of having a physical home button over not having one. In any event I'm torn on which one to get. I do have a few months to decide. Guess I'm just curious as to what others would do in my situation.

6.1" iPhone - it's the mainstream model most consumers will go for.

Larger than iPhone X but smaller than Plus.

I’m in the same position as you with a 6S and looking to upgrade. Judging by how prices has got pretty obscene and the rumours suggesting the 6.1 LCD won’t come with 3DTouch, I think the iPhone 8 is the best option this year.

The Product Red is the best looking iPhone in my opinion at the moment too. There should be some great deals.

Um what? There's no such thing as a 6.1" iPhone.

That Member you replied to knows there is no 6.1 iPhone as of yet. You have not been following the rumored trend for while then. You’re thread title indicates “Which to buy? 7+, 8+ or X, or Whatever comes in the Fall.”

What’s likely coming in the fall *is* a 6.1 LCD iPhone offering features similar to the iPhone X, and the 5.8/6.5 iPhone X in OLED.

Well a 6.1" phone would be way too big. If I want a tablet I'll get an iPad. LOL

If it were me I would keep the 6s til fall and then get the new 5’8 x or whatever it will be called.

Yeah I don't think I'd upgrade right now. I'm willing to wait. I guess I'm just trying to figure out which route to take. The 6S is still a good phone. But after playing around with the 8+ and the X it may be time for something new.

So you rather have all that wasted space for bezels and not make use of it?

First of all there is tech behind those bezels so it's not wasted space. Secondly if you want to take away the bezels then do so but keep the screen sizes the same at 4.7'' and 5.5''. Also keep the same aspect ratio.

I would like to add that I agree that 5.5” 16:9 screen of the Plus is perfect, but no, I don’t want the bezels, so just reduce the footprint, cut off the bezels but leave the screen as it is. Obviously I know this will never happen.

Again, bezels = wasted space. The screen lays over the "Tech".

The iPhone X would be your closest one to that.

In any event the 5.5'' iPhone is pretty big as it is now with the bezels. Keep the screen size and ratio but remove the bezels. That would be prefect size. The iPhone X physical size is about the same as the 4.7" iPhone but the screen seems almost too thin and long. Plus the round corners of the screen makes it look weird.

Me personally, as long as your 6s is working, I would wait until the fall to see what comes out and then make a decision. I have the X now and really love it. Coming from all of the + models, I was worried about getting used to the size of the X, but within a week of using it 100% I’m very comfortable with the size. I for one am on the fence about upgrading. The X was the most expensive iPhone I’ve purchased, so I may just keep it until next year’s new iPhones. I’m using iOS 12 beta 2, and I’m happy with that.

I do like the physical size of the iPhone X. It's nice to hold in the hand cause it's of similar physical size to the 4.7" iPhones. It's the screen and gestures which take getting use to. I played with 8+ and X side by side and for reading text it still seemed nicer on the 8+ compared to the X. Also most video is still in 16:9 which looks much better on the 8/8+ screen ratios.

I’m with you on this. I use my iPhone one handed a lot of the time and need to be able to reach the whole screen with my thumb. A 4.7” screen is just about the limit for me. I don’t mind bezels either and certainly don’t obsess over them.

Exactly. I'm looking at the screen. Not the bezels. Plus I still think a physical home button makes more sense. The finger print reader is plenty secure. I think face detection to unlock the phone is overkill. Why would Apple need to know my face measurements? What next? Do they want a blood sample as well to unlock the phone? They clearly want to collect lots of info about us.

tl;dr: OP doesn't understand the 6.1" model, uses slippery slope argument against Face ID.

I'm in the same boat. Still have my 6, been looking at 8+'s and X's in the used market where both are comparable in price. Not sure if I should buy now or wait.

I have a 6s Plus and I'm not interested in the X form factor (FaceID/notch) at all. I've used it and it's just not for me. I will be buying an 8 Plus direct from Apple (unlocked) as soon as Apple drops their price to ~$700-$750 for 256gb when newest iPhones are released in September.
