I have been using Gmail since it launched, but I am slowly moving into iCloud as I'm trying to distance myself away from Google as much as I can.
Both have been good when it comes to spam. I remember coming home from a week long trip in 2001 and having 1,000 messages of just pure spam in my AOL mailbox. It's amazing how the technology has evolved.
I've used gmail pretty much since it was first released; my username is exactly what I wanted. I used to use Yahoo but left after gmail due to the desirable username. I also have my own domain that I installed Google Apps on it for a gmail interface on accounts I create. These are usually for places where I don't feel like giving my "real" email. I also have a @mac, @me, & @icloud but I seldom use it, usually only for in-store Apple purchases.
My host provides Squirrelmail; it's not too fancy but it doesn't need to be. Naturally I use Mail at home, and it's rare that I need to check my email while out and about.
I like all the services that come along with having a Google account. I also think Gmail is easy to use and has a lot of features that I like. I find that the web interface for Outlook is too heavy - it causes me problems I don't have in Gmail. Yahoo seems pretty good, but I'm happy with Gmail.
My primary email account is through Yahoo, have had it since their beginning in 1997, but I manage it via a gmail account (everything automatically pulled in). I only keep the Yahoo account because I've had it for so long and prefer to have my actual name in my user ID--wasn't available via Gmail.
I used to use Gmail but I got sick of their incompatible iMAP BS in all the email clients I've used.
So, I switched to Fastmail and it does exactly what I want. It's very fast, no ads, great web interface, has power user features that's better than Gmail and so on.
I use an old Yahoo email for newsletters/sign ups/potential spammers.
I have an outlook.com email address solely due to being able to lock up my first initial last name, but I don't regularly use it and currently just forward to my gmail account.
I've used Outlook.com ever since it launched. I was able to get a variation of my name (which is very common) so I started using it. I prefer it to Gmail anyway when I have to go to the Web interface, but I don't do that too often anymore.

Webmail, as in via a browser? Only for POP accounts (most of my mail is through POP accounts) when I'm not at home and need to check incoming mail. Two work Outlook accounts, but I don't use their web interfaces. Gmail and iCloud accounts which I don't use at all. Basically I like to use Mail.app and only from one system.
