My kids have used both Otterbox Symmetry and Commuter cases on previous 6S and 8+ iPhones. I just upgraded my daughter to an XR and when at the store looking at the cases, the Commuter especially looked really huge! About the same width and height as her old 8+ Commuter case, but a heck of a lot thicker. I did not handle a Symmetry though.

Anyway, just wanted to get some first-hand user feedback on either of these two model cases from Otterbox. I definitely want the phone to be protected as reasonably as possible and want to know if the bulkiness of the Commuter is really needed. Thanks!

Personally I’d always take the Symmetry over the commuter since it doesn’t have that ridiculous cutout for the Apple logo that collects dust and debris.

Thanks. I agree with that regard as well. For my XR, I have a Ringke Onyx. I hate the hole in the back just to show the Apple logo.

The Symmetry doesn't offer the color she wants (mint green). We'll see if another option color compared to the Commuter works.
