That's what I did- just ordered myself a TiBook.

I vaguely remember using 10.0 on iBooks my middle school had back in the day... back in the year 2001? They ran OS 9 normally but I could get sneakily get around some security blocks if I started in OS X by holding down the X button.

I forgot about the extensive pin striping. Maybe Steve Jobs was a Yankees fans.

I grabbed a Gigabit TiBook for the same reason. That shipped with OS X 10.1, which is very very limited.

Already checked the Bay, no dice. I just want to run the original OS in them. What's the point in 4 HDDs if i don't have a OS on every one? LOL

You can always get retail install disks of the OS version you want, they should work fine as long as the minor version number is greater than what your machine first came with. For instance, for a single 1.0 GHz MDD you'd want at least 10.2.4 and for a USB 2.0 eMac you'd want at least 10.3.4 on a retail install disk.

Naw it's fine. I'm currently trying to shrink my collection into just the machines I really like. I'm up to my ears in Macs, from '85 to '06. 4 are heading to the recyclers here this coming weekend. 2 were beige boxes (both needed multiple repairs) and the other 2 later G4 towers that I couldn't get rid of and couldn't keep. I still have a long way to go. Then I'll probably focus on PPC laptops.

You don't by chance have a Yikes! G4 and/or a 9600 in that bunch, do you?

If so, please PM me!

what if the minor version number dont exist? i.e. 10.2 or 10.3?

If it's the original release it won't work, because support for your hardware was introduced in the later minor update. Unless you have another PPC Mac that shipped with an earlier OS which you can use to boot the installer and install over Target Disk Mode (for instance, using the MDD to install 10.3 on the eMac and then the combo update) you're out of luck.

I downloaded a Mac OS pack several months back, It had ALL OS versions from OS 9.2.2 (iMac) to 10.7 however i believe they are the base as my 10.4 and 10.5 versions had no minor version number (nor does my retail 10.4 i got with the MDD)

Then the earliest Mac OS X version you can run is 10.3 on the MDD, unless you can find 10.2.4 or later which will run on it.

what version came on a DP 1.25GHz FW800? that's the MDD motherboard i have coming my way

what are the G4 towers? if they work i might be interested probably cheaper to ship than junk (if you're in the US)

Not in California. For devices with a screen there is a recycle fee that is paid when you buy the item ($15 is the max IIRC). Devices without a screen have no fee at purchase but both are free for recycling.

Both were Sawtooth machines. 350MHz. I posted them in the Marketplace and CL but no one wanted them. I have already stripped them though. :\

I don't have a Yikes but I do have an 8600. The 8600/9600 look practically identical (both of which are G3 mini-tower style). I don't know how heavy it is though and how much shipping will cost.

Damn, I'm jealious. Here in Minnesota, it is ILLEGAL (as of 2010 i believe) to throw any electronic devices in the trash can and you have to take the bits and parts to the local recycle center and pay either a set fee or a fee based upon weight (depending on the type)

Freecycle it. Make up some ludicrous description as per those in the Craiglist thread and someone will take any old rubbish off your hands for free.

Thats ridiculous. It's been illegal to put electronics in the trash here since the late 90s IIRC. That when they set up the recycling centers. They usually just pop up (like the one I'm going to) but sometimes they have drop off centers that are open all the time.

This sort of thing fascinates me about the USA, some of the states appear to an outside observer to lag 10+ years behind the curve.

In Europe this sort of thing gets imposed from above by the EU onto the nations, in this case it was WEEE in around 2006. Some regulations are pretty sensible like WEEE and vehicle safety standards that enforced ABS then later ESP for all new vehicles and emissions standards. Some of it well intentioned but contentious - like lead free solder. Some of it plain ridiculous like the bendy banana law!

Mac OS X 10.0

Just installed a burned copy of Mac OS X 10.0.0 on my 400 MHz iMac G3. Here are some screenshots taken with Grab.app (oddly Command-Shift-3 doesn't work in this version of OS X).

So it wasn't just me having that problem :)

It doesn't work in PB either.
